Thought I'd create a meta thread about SMU's prospective '12 class. Currently, we have 3 to offer. I'd think we'd take 2 early(October) and wait on a potential transfer next Spring.
So far, only one kid off the board in Drew Charles. Pretty strong SMU lean that didn't get an offer, and gave a verbal to UTA last night. UTA was his only offer, and he would have probably had a bunch of others, had he waited 3 months. Can't fault the kid for deciding early, but April is a strange time to verbal. He would have done well to play AAU and then decide. Very few schools even have commitable offers out right now, other than to verifiable blue chips. Most want to look at kids vs national comp, especially this weak Texas '12 class.

i'm guessing a verbal to UTA is the most changable of verbal committments.

They seem to prefer a combo or SG over a PG right now. They seem contented w/both Frog & Ryan Manuel as PGs of the future, w/Cotton a 3rd option there. Also, they need another big.
There isn't a ton of playing time available, so that makes it tricky. Over the next 2 years, we have a grand total of 4 ships available, not a lot. B/c of the ineligibles, next years frosh class, at least in eligibility terms, is 6 deep. The '12 kids won't be plug and play

with our our offense, does a 'big' mean 6'9 vilde/leslee/papa type vs the traditional 6'10 or above beanpole? If so, we have more options than most

There are very few true centers around anymore. When I say a big, I'm thinking a 6'9" type that can stick the 15 footer & rebound.
There also aren't many true pg's anymore. When I say I want a pg, I'm really talking about a combo.
Break the pressure & score. Not to many with the pass 1st mental makeup anymore.

I think the word Big, in the word Biggs, is overrated. More than height and muscle you need athleticism and hustle. Take look at a lot of successful college teams these days. Lot of teams get away with not going taller than 6'9".

I think the goal for the roster, once we switched to the sprint motion, is having length across all 5 spots. The ability to press w/5, 6'5-6'8 kids, gives you tons of versatility.
In truth, our offense showcases skilled face-up 4s as well as any offense in the land. Everyone gets the ball off a hard screen, and gets to determine dribble/shot/pass etc. I don't think we care too much about a 'true' center, unless one has the requisite skill. I doubt they go for a project w/size, any time soon. That doesn't work more than it does, especially in an offense that is defined by court savvy & skill

Tweet from Arizona's Josh Gershon.
2012 San Diego PG Dalante Dunklin will likely choose between Cal Poly and Penn. Would be a good catch for either.
