Sabrina McKinney Signs NLI To Play Women's Basketball At SMU
Point guard transfers from Trinity Valley Community College

April 13, 2011

DALLAS (SMU) - Sabrina McKinney signed a National Letter of Intent to play women's basketball at SMU, head coach Rhonda Rompola announced Wednesday.

The 5-foot-7 point guard is transferring to SMU after one season at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas, where she led the Lady Cards to a 31-2 record and an NJCAA Region Championship.

McKinney began her career at Arizona State before transferring to Trinity Valley to get closer to home. The Arlington, Texas native graduated from Bowie High School.

She finished her career as a four-year starter and etched her name in the record books. She is second all-time at Bowie High School in assists (455) and steals (289), and seventh in points (823).

When I saw the title of the thread I thought "Whoa, that's out of the blue. I thought we were set at point, at least to the point where we wouldn't take JUCOs."

Then I clicked on it and saw it was women's basketball. Sounds like a nice pickup for Rhonda and Co!

Hope she can break defenders down and create her own shots. Alisha Filmore is OK at it, and Raquel Christian could do it some, but was inconsistent. If McKinney can break someone down, she'll get playing time right away.

I officially crapped my pants a little, especially since I was told we turned away a profile transfer recently
