PLEASE RELEASE THE 2011-12 OOC SCHEDULE

Stop being paranoid, Doherty, and generate some summer buzz with your program.

You've really got something to promote here. Get people thinking basketball. And you might be the only game in town this winter if the NBA can't get a CBA.

Forward thinking would be helpful!!

And you can stop being melodramatic, or acting like Coach Doherty is doing something wrong here.

For what it's worth (and being the slave to accuracy that you are, I'm sure you already looked this up), Tulsa, Rice, Houston, Tulane, Memphis, Southern Miss, UAB, ECU and Marshall haven't released their schedules, either. UTEP inexplicably has released HALF of it's schedule. UCF has announced three exhibition games.

I assume you have sent the appropriate e-mails to the local media outlets that cover each of those schools, complaining about how those coaches also are "paranoid"? Or could it be that with football right around the corner, each of those schools is trying to generate "buzz" about their football players? Shocking, I know, but that's where fans' minds are now.

These things have to go through the conference office, and it's obvious the conference hasn't set its schedule yet. Then it has to go through each school's compliance office. I don't know either, but I bet that's a month or two away.

Besides, even when the schedule is finalized, it's not Doherty's job to "release" it. They have a PR department that I assume releases it only after getting the OK from the higher-ups. Sorry if your June Jones bashing hasn't gained any traction, but laying into Doherty after his team showed improvement with a 20-win season — and three months before they even start practice — is pretty pathetic.

I'm not interested in what other CUSA programs are doing. I just want him to release the OOC early.

And I want Jessica Biel to show up at my door and profess her uncontrollable love and desire for me, but that's not happening, either.

SMU never has announced an incomplete schedule, and there's no reason to believe that will change ... nor should it.

SMU needs to change its policy. I'm fully aware that the SID office releases this schedule - IN COORDINATION WITH DOHERTY.

Surely he gets some kind of input, but schedule releases are done "in coordination with" conference offices and athletic department administrations. Coaches coach and recruit and fulfill other tasks. Releasing schedules is not his (or any other coach's) jobs.

And what possible benefit would there be to releasing a half a schedule? Is that really going to sell tickets that would not otherwise sell when each school releases its full schedule?

Of course not.

The reaction from the old guard on this thread is just astonishing. This is the same business when some of these guys refused to even acknowledge the run in the CIT.

It never changes.

Talk about comparing apples to oranges — these two have nothing to do with each other.

And for the record, I never "refused to even acknowledge the run in the CIT." I was thrilled to see SMU return to the postseason.

Forgive me for cluttering my post with a little logic.

Doherty has shown himself to be very hands-on in everything. So who knows what role he plays in this. My belief is its larger than you expect. And I find your position about "what benefit is there to releaseing half a schedule'' to be very 1975 of you.

Then tell me why other programs are releasing their OOC schedules? They must find a benefit. Maybe or maybe not for tickets. But they at least CAN CREATE SOME INTEREST. If you read the original post, that's the point I'm trying to make.

We're coming off our most successful season in a decade. Keep the momentum going.

Ummm, Dave Rice & crew aren't avoiding anyone. BTW, he's a recruiting machine. The Rebels are about to take their place back on top, where they belong

Ole Miss released their complete schedule. We play them on January 3 at 7pm in Oxford. A little warm-up for them before they start SEC play that Saturday.
