Moody Coliseum Game Presentation

Postby Pony ^ » Sun Nov 13, 2011 5:02 pm

I went to the McMurray game and enjoyed our win..but I realized that atmosphere/presentation couldn't be any more boring. I feel like they try to make it boring on purpose during timeouts. Some of my thoughts:

-Music: literally no music is played during timeouts (w/ exception to band). I am so sick of watching weaksauce commercials or advertisements. I could literally hear the pom poms shaking it was so quiet. At some points, it was even awkward. PLAY MUSIC, not hard. And not the elevator music, give me ACDC or something. Boost the volume too.
-We need sound effects. For example, a made free throw has a cash register sound, etc. Is it legal in college to play beats while on defense?
- Starting lineups...wow this is weak. I hope with our renovations that we can turn off the lights and have spotlights, lasers, etc. Right now it is just flat out boring.

There is more but you get the point. Thoughts or suggestions?

understand where you're coming from; however, some of your complaints are the idiocracy of sports.

Flashing lights, louder music, more stuff
"This is . . . dedication to distraction by fans. Is that what I'm going to go with Jay?"
"That poor kid has to be wondering what is dad doing."

No

And a made free throw has a fan cheer when the band and students are there. Perhaps those in the blue seats should follow suit

It's very simple.

1) Do commercial reads only at pregame and halftime. If Memphis football can do this, so can we. Getting commercial reads out of stoppages of play allows the band to start as soon as the ball is out of play and eliminates awkward silences.
2) Dim the lights and have spotlights and such for the starting lineup introduction. If minor league hockey teams can do this, so can we.
3) Halftime entertainment should not consist of the Under-4 Dance Team. I know, those kids get up for that opportunity, but it makes us look small-time when we do it ALL THE FREAKING TIME.

Hope they play Limp Bizkit's "Break Stuff" over Moody's PA. Scratch that last idea. "Break Stuff" should be the BB teams song when they enter the floor.

Moody Coliseum Game Presentation

I like what we do over the in your face NBA presentation. I go to games to watch the game, not to be entertained by a dj. Having fans who are interested will fill in all the awkward silences. Band and cheerleaders do good free throw noises. Also like the three point chant.

The problem is the awkward silence that is the result of doing ad reads during each break.

SMU goes on an 8-0 run, the other team calls timeout, and here's what happens in Moody:

Timeout called
(4 second awkward pause)
Announcer: "SMU would like to thank Clipper Magazine for their support of Mustang Basketball. Clipper Magazine - The Best Local Advertising in America, Period."
(6 second awkward pause as everyone in the arena thinks "What the hell is Clipper Magazine?")
Video Board: "Public Service Plumbers...(blah blah blah)."
(4 second awkward pause while people try to figure out why the PS Plumber ad sounds like it was record underwater)
Video Board: "I think this is going to be a win-win. You know what this is? A win-win? No, a home run. That was going to be my next guess. American Airlines, we know why you fly."
(5 second awkward pause)
Band plays for 16 seconds, getting through the first eight measures of Crazy Train which would have fired the students/fans up if only they had been able to go through more of the intro
Game is restarted

This is really my only complaint, don't do commercials during the media time outs, that whole time should be spent with the cheerleaders/dance team on the floor and the band playing, to either generate or maintain momentum. Just taking care of this would add a lot to the presentation without getting all glitzy like the NBA.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

I think you are the first pony fan requesting less marketing.

Moody has those crappy, high school gym sodium vapor lights that take 5 minutes to warm up. We'll never see lights off for game intros.
