that the posters on the basketball board appear more confident in SMU's future than those on the football board do, but such is the case right now.
May the peace and tranquility on the Hoops board be long-lasting.

Well, hoopmanx has been saying so for about a year now. If hoops finishes strong that will be 2 years in a row of solid improvement. Also, keep in mind that we already have our 4-star basketball player on the team, our UT transfer (another 4-star) is days away from playing and our excellent recruiting class already signed. If Coach Doherty leaves SMU or if SMU fires him we would not miss a beat because everything for success is in place now. All we need is someone (hopefully Doherty and his staff) to groom our players and keep recruiting nationally and mining local talent as that is now plausible thanks to the rehab. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about football. In football we need to lock up this years class, have Garret Gilbert enroll in January, and then sign Printz next year. Attendance problems are much easier to solve in basketball by the very nature of arena size.

Except that proportionately (to the facility), SMU football currently packs way more than basketball. Plus, SMU football doesn't have to complete against the Cowboys like SMU basketball has to complete against the Mavs.
I still think attendance is less of an issue for basketball because 32,000 is a small stadium capacity for FBS football. For basketball, 8,000 fans will put you at the top with pretty much all schools aside from Kentucky, Tennessee, Memphis, Louisville, and the NBA arenas used by some of the Big East schools. Additionally we are about 12,000 fans away from filling Ford whereas we are about 5,000 fans from filling Moody. Besides, get 5,000 fans in Moody and the place will be rocking and no players, coaches, or recruits will mention attendance as an issue.

I'll have to take your word for it.
It is a fun environment at that level or higher

Ha, this season can go any direction. The roster is the best its been in a long time though. Short on experience & heavy on rust right now. SMU hasn't had 4 bigs like Smith/Vilde/Cunningham & Mbargorba in forever, so the future has players in it. Gotta execute & keep winning.
FWIW, we have lots of 4 star types on the hoops team. Cunningham was a rivals national top 100, as was Nick Russell, and incoming '12 big, Blaise Mbargorba.

I am just glad that you were able to find the building and have now been in there period.

I'll have to take your word for it.
you are really going to enjoy Moody when 5,000 get loud in there.

at 4000, Moody is good. 5000 is fun. 6000-7000 gets really loud. 8000+ is a great college basketball setting. The problem with the football vs. basketball debate is there really is no debate. the fact is that more SMU alums care about football. thats ok, the basketball program can do fine if it wins and schedules well. Modernized moody will help too, especially the concourses and amenities which are horrible right now, flat out depressing and uninviting.

Will be so great when Moody is upgraded. Restrooms, hallways, paint - needs a lift. Close your eyes and you could be in 1990, same thing except floor and scoreboard.
