So when do we hire a real B-East caliber coach? How long does it take us to get a real coach in here now that we have some extra money coming our way?
Re: So when do we hire a real B-East caliber coach?don't feed the trolls..gotta see how this season plays out

Re: So when do we hire a real B-East caliber coach?
lol, I just wanna watch some ball and win some games. Both Doh & Jones can blow me.
So when do we hire a real B-East caliber coach?I'll be in over Xmas you gonna watch any games?
Re: So when do we hire a real B-East caliber coach?still might role down for OSU, but my plate is pretty full over the holidays w/a certain SEC program that's taking on water in hoops. A shame they wear our brand, and worse yet I'm on clean up
Re: So when do we hire a real B-East caliber coach?Nice....well let me know if you do
Re: So when do we hire a real B-East caliber coach?Hoopman if you had to put 5 people on list to replace doh, who would they be...assume decent salary, mid to high end big east payday
Re: So when do we hire a real B-East caliber coach?
South Carolina or Auburn?
Re: So when do we hire a real B-East caliber coach?
Here's the thing, CMF, the SEC program that's dying on a vine, has a head coach that was one of the most coveted in the land, just a few years ago. When we were talking about ditching Doh two years ago, there was a certain groundswell behind a current mid-major coach, that was very successful at UT as an assistant & recruiter. He's since tanked the mid-major program. The finalist opposite Doh some 5 years ago, is now an assistant on the TCU bench. There is no such thing as a 'real B-East caliber coach' as the OP states in the subject. It's all about career arc & right place, right time. I have no issue kicking Doh to the curb, should he suck this year. That said, there are no guarantees w/another hire either. As for 'gnats of death buzzing around Doh,' it's been that way for 3 years, and the classes keep getting better. All of the last 4 years, we haven't even had a full compliment of assistants heading into the open period, and things are still trending up on the trail. It sorta defies explanation actually.

USC. Total nightmare
Re: So when do we hire a real B-East caliber coach?I would argue that Doherty is a BCS caliber coach.
High profile name, coach at UNC where he recruited great talent that won a championship, AP coach of the year at Notre Dame. Sure he has yet to produce here, but I think he is still the right man for the job. He gives his all in supporting SMU and the program. One thing I love is how when he first comes on the floor, he talks with the fans, all the big donors, the ball boys... He really promotes the program..unlike a football coach whose name I will not speak. He needs to start producing, but the big east move should give a big recruiting bump, Lets give him more time to make it work. Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: So when do we hire a real B-East caliber coach?
Greg Marshall Shaka Smart Tommy Amaker Chris Mooney Ben Jacobsen Archie Miller Brooks Thompson Not a single sure thing in that bunch of 7. Closest to a home run is Marshall, who is a maniac & very probably nuts. Some would say Fran Fraschilla should get an interview, cause he'd jump over Moody to get the job. Unfortunately, he's crazier than Marshall & Doh combined. He's rehabbed his rep on ESPN quite a bit, but crazy is crazy Last edited by hoopmanx on Wed Dec 07, 2011 12:26 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: So when do we hire a real B-East caliber coach?
can you explain the switch to the princeton being a sunk cost? Me confused
Re: So when do we hire a real B-East caliber coach?
It would be a coup, but we can't get him. Mooney & Smart have turned down better jobs in the past too. Also, lets see what Stevens does when he doesn't luck into 2 NBA players in a two year span. I had the wonderful experience of dining w/him this past summer, after a Peach Jam session, and he's a fantastic person. I'd love to get him.
