This season = Do or die for Doh?

Postby Sacco » Thu Dec 08, 2011 10:08 am

Over on the Fball board, Aus10fromHous10 (former DC writer) posted highlights from conversations with Orsini at the NYC reception last night. I thought this was interesting:

"Lastly, during my one-on-one, Orsini brought up the fact that the basketball program needs to step it up. He made it clear in no uncertain terms that one winning season in five years under Doherty is unacceptable. This year will be a telling year, he said, adding that he’ll be looking at the overall results in deciding where to take the program."

I guess it's nice to hear some resolve on this issue. I just keep hearing that a few select boosters are happy with Doh, and that's all it takes to keep him here. Nice to know that Orisini wants results.

The boosters have stated (privately) they want results too since we are moving to the Big East

Most of the guys in the mens basketball club are pretty happy with Doh right now.
"This is . . . dedication to distraction by fans. Is that what I'm going to go with Jay?"
"That poor kid has to be wondering what is dad doing."

He just needs to win at a reasonable clip w/9 newcomers. He can play himself on or off the hot seat. I'd expect everyone, myself included, to get pretty heated if this season is a tank job. Its what it is. So far, it's been an average start.

Anyone see FGC almost take out Nebraska last night? They've lost to SMU/TCU/Nebraska by 1, and Maryland by like 6.

Let's see what happens once we get the whole team playing together. I'm not opposed to hiring another coach but it must be a big step up......no lateral hires.

Unfortunately, I think you're right, CMF. I wish he was on the hot seat this year.

I don't think it's do or die this year for Doh with all of the new players on the roster. With the 7 footer coming in next year will be the sink or swim year.

I think this is the year that Doh has to prove something. While he finally has a young team to work with, we have been waiting form something to happen for a long time.

Here's the thing, if they have a winning season or close, it'll be hard to fire him. The facts are that this team has good young talent w/6 pretty impressive frosh. I imagine they'll run Losh, cause he's going to graduate, and they'd have to petition for another year anyway. Like the last few years, they'll grab a Big 12 transfer etc. Add that to Blaise, Bernardi & Ofoegbu, and this team will be very talented next year, and kinda loaded the year after that. Even w/Doh at the helm, it's really just a matter of experience and maturation before we're good.

We've never been so far out front on talent. Not since Sasser was a frosh have we been able to look two years down the line, and comfortably project the team being very good. I just don't want to take too many lumps this year. Starts by winning the next 3.

Talent is good, need to let the assistant coaches get more involved so we can win. Let Doh recruit and let the assistant coaches have a bigger influence like they did during the latter half of last season

What makes you think the assistants have less influence this season than they did last season? Sounds like you are just talking out of your [deleted] to me.

I think the assistants have as much control as last year, we just have a much deeper bench, and Doh is in charge of substitutions. So far, we're back to a herky-jerky rotation, where several favorites are getting time over more talented players.

Patsevich is a name that bears that out...when Williams is eligible, that kid needs to be buried on the bench.

BTW, I saw your point about Florida Gulf Coast. That's actually turning out to be a decent win.
