Sell me on Basketball.

Postby Dutch » Sat Dec 17, 2011 12:06 pm

i'm being totally honest. i know we're going to the Big East, and there will be some great teams coming through Moody very soon.

I've never really gotten into SMU Hoops. i follow the program from 30,000 feet. i generally know our W/L record, i know a couple of players names, and go to a couple games a year.

I've been thinking about buying season tickets now that my son is old enough to go to games with me and enjoy them. Convince me to do so.

It never rains indoors. Is never cold. Is never hot. As long as Doherty is here and until Moody gets renovated, that's all i got. Just kidding mostly, we have a couple nice young players in Cannen Cunningham, Jalen Jones and Ryan Manual. Its not Sasser, Davis and Elsey but it should be if Doh would ride them.

Some place called 1st and 10 may have ribs at halftime for Mustangs Clubbers.

I got to see the UALR game and our players are a step up from the past few years. If they can get it all in sync they could be above average, and definitely fun to watch. If I were there I would certainly have season tickets.

We have a young team that will only get better over the next few years with or without Doherty. We will have a major upgrade in the schedule once we join the Big East and should sell more season ticket then so you better buy in now to lock in a good location. I am a big basketball fan so if I lived in Dallas I would have season tickets.

A word to the wise, do not judge the game experience until conference play starts. Aside from the rare non-conference matchup against Texas Tech w/ Bob Knight etc. non-conference play is fairly quiet. Once the CUSA portion of the schedule starts we face better teams and crowd interest improves.

CMF -

I grew up in Wichita, and I went to a lot of Shockers games. You're right, win or lose the games were always fun and generally packed. Granted, there aren't as many options for entertainment in Wichita.

Moody experience could be awesome, but it's not. There are moments in close games where Moody comes alive. However, like you say, for the most part, the current product is boring for all but the hardcore Mustangs bball fan.

Why are tix even $9 a pop? If you're only selling like 500 tix, wouldn't you think the price should be lowered? I'm being serious.

If you want the average Dallas fan, I'm sure they're thinking..... hmmmm $9 to take the family to go see Arthur Christmas--or $9 to go see a team that just lost to Jackson State? As it stands, Moody will lose that one every time.

I have to think that a $4-$5 ticket special (Groupon, LivingSocial, etc.) would get a lot of butts in seats. With more fans there, atmosphere goes up, and ppl may be willing to do the $9 next time. Plus, you'll get the chance to sell concessions.

How about a deal where you pay the $9 and get a free shirt? That would get the marketing going

I believe the $9 is the minimum price for the ticket to be counted in NCAA bball attendance records. These official sales numbers are important for several reasons.

I don't think price is the issue with attendance

I just hope one day, the game day experience will step up. Butts in seats helps but an upgrade overall is needed for the live experience.
