Just an observation

Postby Bergermeister » Fri Dec 23, 2011 11:06 am

Maybe I should wait until after tip-off to go to my seat BECAUSE I cringe when our team lines up for the National Anthem and then proceeds to stare at their shoelaces throughout the entire anthem. (and some idiot with a camera videos these disrespectful individuals and shows it on the scoreboard) If this is going to continue to be a part of the game presentation and we're going to line our team up out on the court, the team needs to be instructed in the proper etiquette. Is this how 18-22 year old men show their respect? They can at least hold their heads up and stare straight ahead - if directing their eyes to the flag conflicts with their political beliefs - and show respect for the symbol of the country in which they have the opportunity and freedom to play the game and receive an education. When I think of the respect shown by athletes in the service academies, we look like "brats" -- selfish, at best. The players on opposing teams are more respectful, in this regard, than we are. It's not Xs and 0s - but somebody thought it was important to play the National Anthem before the game and have the teams on the court. I say "if you can't do it right, don't do it at all." I feel better now. To better regulate my blood pressure, I'll just hang out by the concession stand until the game starts.
Embarrassing.

I guess I'm too busy looking at the flag to notice all the disrespectful fans staring at the players and scoreboard.

It's too bad you old-timers don't live in north Korea where everyone is forced to worship the flag. Who cares how they approach the flag. The national anthem is actually just an old drinking song. We aren't a military state. Heil George bush!

Just an FYI - The scoreboard has a Flag on it while the Anthem is playing.

There is also a Flag on the coaches table so you now have three options. It is actually better than the scoreboard because it is in HD. If you any talent, you can look at the coaches table with your left eye and the players with your right eye.

Wait. I thought the whole issue was that players were in the scoreboard looking at their shoes.
