Doherty U Haul Watch??

Postby Digetydog » Wed Dec 28, 2011 10:27 pm

Just got back to my parents house from the OSU game. Because SMU BB is never on TV, it was my first chance to watch this years team. Lots of potential, decent defense, but
1) horrible outside shooting with most shots short
2) point guard is too small and got way too many minutes
3) defense was better than I expected
4) doh's rotation was bizarre with everyone but Peruna getting into the game
5) having the little PG take both big shots at the end of the 2nd half and the first OT was beyond stupid.

That man has to go. There is no way he leads us into the Big East.

On the bright side, the crowd in 109 was fun and my nephew enjoyed himself.

See you all next year. Back to CT and Big East BB. Looking forward to taking my little girl to every SMU game at the XL Center and Rentschler Field.

saw aquaintances at AAC tonight that i didn't know were SMU fans. Also some teenagers there in the SMU section, which you NEVER see at Moody cuz it ain't cool and we don't play anybody. Another blown opportunity tonight to build some more permanent fan support and interest. People were excited when it looked like we would win. Then, the kick in the groin.

My plan to get my nephew to go to SMU was helped by the event. I wonder if we can play all the games at the AAC while the refurbish Moody.

I remember when Moody was packed in the SWC days. Great times.

No interest in playing in AAC on a permanent basis.
But once a year like this is great.
Big missed opportunity to suck in the causal fan with a win over a name program.
Was happy with the SMU turnout.
Also was surprised how nonchalant the OSU section was. Seemed disinterested the entire game.

I live in NY so don't really get a chance to see the BB team much but I agree wholeheartedly with your observations. Good defense but lack of offensive execution which I think could be dramatically improved if we had a legitimate D1 PG.

I'd be OK with playing at the AAC again, but not in this non-event. SMU was treated like the out-of-town visitors. The PA guy even sounded like he was cheering for OSU.

Uh oh, but yes, there are mini-packs that are 3 or 8 games I think. Some are the same nights as SMU.

On the other note, if Doh was on the street, would he get an assistant job somewhere? Surely nobody would hire him as a HC now.

Our offense:

Dribble, dribble, pass, look around, pass, dribble, pass, pass, pass, no one moving..., pass, 5 seconds left on shot clock, hurry, hurry, oooops.

Our D looked good though.

Shooting is not going to be consistent game in and game out from the outside unless you have a sniper like Jimmer out there. Agree we need a better point guard to quarterback the offense and end of the game shot selection was a joke. As far as rotation goes, in a non-conference game especially one on TV, its good to try and get everyone in the game. That way a player's friends and family back home see him in the game. Yeah this kid may not be your best player, but perhaps down the road, his kid brother, cousin or next door neighbor might be a 5 star prospect. Also, you don't want to get players injured in a non-conference game due to late game fatigue if you can avoid it. Last year, once conference play started Doh seemed to shorten his bench.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Eaststang---we have a REAL sniper gym rat ( Like Jimmer) coming next year with one of the TOP 10 players in New York City, Brian Bernardi.
