No where to go but up.
We are just starting to get our team on the floor and used to playing with one another.

It's not a very top-heavy league. Tons of parity from 1 through whoever finishes last.

The loss to Jackson st was inexcusable - but did you check their schedule? - it was as tough as anyone in the country. Not defending our loss - but they are a TON better then people think.
i think ESPN must have assigned this one to an intern. I think we will surprise a very large number of people if they buy into this B.S.

Sagarin has SMU at 177, about in the middle of the NCAA.
That does put us last in the CUSA but the predictor has all but three teams between -2.5 to +1 at home. Should be an exciting conference season as the team continues to mature.

If we end up last , will Doh still be the coach next season? Our rankings in basketball are inexcusable. I know it takes time but he's had 6 years.

I'd like to organize 3-4 RBA attended basketball games, which would be the best home games to target? I'd like RBA to make all of them but by-myself I only have the man-power to organize a few. I only check into basketball after the bowl season is over -- which games do you think will be the most critical for SMU in conference-play or the best utilization of my efforts? RBA attending TCU is a given

Well, I guess we will find out if SO has the cajones to do anything about this program. So far he has passed on making improvements in the soccer programs and will probably do the same with bball.
GO PONIES!!!

Imagine a conference in which SMU would be favored to win it all. Texas AA division?

You guys are whiny. Team just played two high major, power conference teams, closer than any SMU revenue in forever. Somehow, you've decided this means we're one of the worst teams in D1. Wake up all you self-loathers

Love SMU.
Hate Doherty.
I also hate Notre Dame, the Big 10, and Skip Bayless.

Last time I checked I was allowed to have an opinion, especially as an alumnus. I want SMU to do well in all things. We will be joining the best basketball conference and Doherty has had 6 years and with limited success. If that's acceptable to you then you're entitled to it. Not being complacent is not the same as being whiny.
When an analyst picks us last in our conference that says a lot about what others think of our program. We suffered bad football teams until we brought a real coach and now we're headed to our 3rd straight bowl. And yes I do expect us to get better. Our expectations should be. If only we had similar aspirations in basketball.

Nobody is complacent, nor is anyone advocating Doherty as the future. There is a business & industry reality to the last 6 years, though. You can't just [deleted] and moan w/o understanding where we were coming from, to where we are currently. No doubt that Doh has to get it done on the court now or we'll change direction. That said, some of you were advocating it several years ago, and that would have been ridiculous given state of the program in grassroots circles. Doherty & company have done a really good job of rehabbing SMU's name in the most important circles, so that we can have success moving forward.
Now, get out of here w/your football comparison. Reaching a bowl game is like a participation trophy in youth league soccer. We're a lot closer to competing w/Big East level schools in hoops, than we would be competing w/SEC teams in football. When was the last time we played two BCS level football teams w/in a touchdown, in the same season? We recruit better in hoops, we play big time teams closer etc.
Neither program has done a damn thing.
