FACTS & STATS: Site: Tad Smith Coliseum (8,700) -- Oxford, Mississippi. Television: FSN. Home Record: SMU 5-0, Ole Miss 5-0. Away Record: SMU 2-1, Ole Miss 2-2. Neutral Record: SMU 1-4, Ole Miss 2-2. Conference Record: SMU 0-0, Ole Miss 0-0. Series Record: Series is tied, 1-1. GAMES NOTES: Ole Miss welcomes in SMU to the Tad Smith Coliseum, as both teams play in one final tune-up before beginning conference play. SMU has built a solid 8-5 record heading into this contest primarily by being impossible to beat at home. SMU is 5-0 at home but is only 3-6 in games away from Moody Coliseum. SMU has won three of its last four coming into this matchup including its only road win, a 84-65 triumph over SE Missouri State on December 19th. SMU has yet to begin its Conference USA schedule but will do so after playing Ole Miss when they travel to Tulsa to take on the Golden Hurricane. Ole Miss looked impressive in opening the season at 9-1. Since the quick start, the Rebels have struggled losing their last three contests. In their last game they lost 62-50 on the road against Dayton. After SMU, Ole Miss will try to start off better in SEC then they did last year when they started 1-4, with a road game against LSU. The series is tied at 1-1 with Ole Miss winning the most recent game, a 75-57 victory last season. SMU has often gone the way of its star player, senior forward Robert Nyakundi, who leads the team in scoring (16.0 ppg), rebounding (5.9 rpg), field goal percentage (52.7) and three-point field goal percentage (48.7). However in the Mustangs last game they managed a 73-65 win over Louisiana Tech without much from Nyakundi. Nyakundi scored a season-low four points and pulled down four rebounds. The Mustangs got the biggest scoring effort from freshman Ryan Manuel in the game. Manuel scored a career-high 13 points in 15 minutes of court time in the win. London Giles, a junior guard, has been another scorer for the Mustangs this season averaging 12.1 points per game. Freshman center Cannen Cunningham has been a solid contributor from the bench scoring 5.8 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per game, which is second on the team, in just 17 minutes a game. The Mustangs have been a very good defensive squad this season allowing 59.2 points per game which is second in Conference USA, including six games in which they have allowed less than 60 points in a game. No scorer has really stood out as the primary option for an Ole Miss squad that averages 67.5 points per game this season. Coming into the game the Rebels had five players scoring over 8.8 points per game with three in double figures. However no player is scoring more than 12.3 points per game. Sophomore guard Dundrecous Nelson has been the standard for the Rebels with a 12.3 points per game average. Senior forward Terrance Henry has been the main scoring threat down low putting in 11.5 points per game and an even 4.0 rebounds per game as well. Freshman guard Jarvis Summers is the other Rebel in double figures at 10.4 points per game. Junior forward Reginald Buckner has been another strong player in the Rebels' frontcourt. Buckner is averaging 2.6 blocks per game which is second in the SEC and currently holds the all-time mark at Ole Miss with 188. Missing from the Rebels' attack will be junior forward Murphy Holloway who led the team in rebounding at 9.6 rebounds per game and a solid 9.9 points a game. Murphy is listed as day-to-day with a high ankle sprain and did not play in the loss to Dayton. Ole Miss has not yet lost at home this season and has been battle tested in playing the nations No. 63 ranked schedule this season. The Rebels should be able to snap their three game losing skid and pick up some momentum heading into SEC play with a win over SMU. Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Ole Miss 64, SMU 59 01/03 10:34:53 ET Game Date and Time Tuesday, January 3rd, 9:00 p.m. (et) Read more here: http://www.kansascity.com/2012/01/03/33 ... rylink=cpy
