Doh = BennettFor discussion:
This may be too early to make this comparison, but this year seems similar to Bennett's 2006 year. Bennett's team had a lot of preseason hope. There was pressure not only for a winning season but for a post season bowl. The team had talent, but lost some close games and blew some leads, including a 21 point lead against Houston, if I remember correctly. Finally, the team lost to Rice in a close one that kept us from a bowl. Doh's team has good talent. Has lost some close games (Tulsa the exception) and a bad loss. There is pressure to make a post season tournament, plus pressure to preform well going into a new conference. Hopefully, they learn and do well for the rest of the season, but something is holding them back and that may be Doh. Bennett just couldn't win, and the same may be true for Doh. Our Bball program is a lot better than when he got it, but he has also built up expectations. I may be stretching this analogy, but the dynamics seem to be the same. I hope the final result is different, but Doh may not have what it takes to get over the hump. I also hope I am wrong, cause I like him and this team. doesn't care who wins. -- Dwight D. Eisenhower
Re: Doh = BennettOne of the better posts in some time treadway, IMO
Re: Doh = BennettI thank Doh for what he has done, b/c he did move the program forward. However, it is time to find the next guy to get us to the next level.
Pony Up!
Re: Doh = Bennett"Players play coaches don't play the game" and other permutations of the same statement is a common refrain in the latter part of a coaches tenure.
Re: Re: Doh = Bennett
Put another way, this kind of stuff is said all the time when a situation has gotten to the point where there are few alternatives left but to go a different direction with the head coach.
Re: Doh = Bennetti think Jalen Jones was the leading scorer with 12 last night wasn't he? And since when is running a clean program sufficient to keep your job in D-1, or for a school aspiring to the Big East for that matter? Dement ran a squeaky clean program, he's not here. Tubbs gave players laundry detergent, wow filthy. Bennett ran a clean program. So what? These are Dohs players and after 6 years, whatever he has to work with and whatever he lacks right now (shooters, big men, slashers, experience or all of the above) is ENTIRELY his fault.
Can we all agree that beating TCU at home is starting to look like an absolute must for Doh at this point? Its not a lofty goal, but isn't Doh like 1-4 against bad Frog teams? Remember the Frog teams that Dement teams used to have to play? Night and day.
Re: Doh = BennettTravis, you're judged by wins and losses and meeting expectations regardless of the kind of program you run. That's the way it's always been. His body of work speaks for itself.
Doherty needs to have a real meaningful season because he even talked up this class. If he doesn't, we'll see what happens in March.
Doh = BennettI think travis bickle wishes he was the illegitimate love child of doh and jfrog.
Derail the Frogs!
Re: Re: Doh = Bennett
Phil Bennett for one.
Re: Doh = Bennett
Doherty is 66-88 coming into this year. He has failed at his job and it's been 6 years. I would have been canned a long time ago at my job, but this is SMU with lack of $$. He has had recruiting cycles enough to get his own guys. http://www.parkcitiespeople.com/2012/01 ... e-doherty/ <I love the last comment, "time to put on the big boy pants now"> --- this is the Big East fella's, not sub-par basketball now. We'd get smoked right now by almost every team in the BE. Probably be dead last. Pats is a bust in my opinion, Smith was hyped...jury still out. Cannen is too timid. Jones and Manuel have a ton of upside. Williams hopefully gets better and better. Vilde is riding pine now, overhyped as well?
Re: Doh = Bennett
Pats hasn't produced, but the bigger bust to me was Clink because he has been here for 3 years now and producing very little as a senior. Biggest problem to me is why don't we have a sophomore or junior on the roster who can defend the post against Rice or Utep? Doh knew Papa was going to run out of eligibility. Why are we in this position? Its not as much of blaming the young players we do have as it is why does Doh have to rely on them so much as freshman and why is the roster still so unbalanced and void in certain areas?
Re: Re: Doh = Bennett
He had a mustache and doh doesnt. Just saying....I'm sure there is something there for someone. All out.
Re: Doh = BennettDement was 136-120 and made the NIT in his sixth year and seriously had a chance at the NCAAs. Tubbs was 27-30. Doh is now 75-96 here. Its not fair for this years freshmen to be under pressure to win now, but they are because of Doh's recruiting and roster management failures in years 3, 4 and 5 of his tenure.
Re: Doh = Bennett
Big men are hard to get but I agree, you fill your gaps as you can. Doh hasn't done that very well at all. We have 1 guy who can penetrate, absurd.
