I want Doherty fired. I don't think you can make a reasonable defense for keeping the guy. BUT. What is up with all this I feel sorry for the players bullsh*t everyone keeps saying? No amount of bad coaching can cause a d1 hoops team to shoot 17% from the field. I feel sorry for the fans and that is it.

Yea, Doherty sucks as a coach, but he can't make their shots go in.
All this BS about keeping Doh because of the talent he's amassed and what not needs to stop. Kick his [deleted] out of town, and if any players wish to follow him, don't let the door hit you on the way out

Well, the players were lied to w/regards to the style they'd be playing. This isn't about 17% in any given game, its about them being forced to play a style that doesn't make sense for some of their God-given abilities. Beyond that, they are never put in a position to succeed. The reality is that we have young talent that is coveted by other teams. If you heard the programs that have interest in some of our frosh, you'd realize none are going to transfer down. Other coaches see their misuse, and want them

I know who's after two of our kids, and they are considerably better than any team Doh has ever fielded at SMU

Doh has had 6 years to amass talent so if it is bad players on the team it is his fault for bad recruiting. I think we have some talent just not the right coach or system for the talent we have.

I do feel sorry for the players. Doh has them playing a terrible system that does not fit their talents and strengths. FIRE DOH TODAY!

They give us more energy and enthusiasm than the cheerleaders, fans, and players. Maybe they should get full-rides.
This is true. Add in the PA announcer and game presentation/commercials/advertisements and it is perfect.

We played the same system last year and won 20. Let them transfer and see who takes them.
I felt the exact same way last year too

yeah, last year the line was "hey, I know we are bad, but stick around, see all those tall guys in street clothes at the end of our bench...transfers...man we are going to be so much better next year."
Not true.
I was disappointed last year, this year has been excruciatingly miserable. remembering last year does not fill me with any sort excitement.

Wow. After this latest debacle, it is time to look at releasing Coach Doherty. I wanted and hoped for so much, and better than what has transpired. I live in NC, so I've heard that crowd's thoughts on Coach. I realize that the unc crowd is pretty tough, but Doh made some good moves at unc, but ultimately, he was losing the kids there, and the heart of the fan base. When SMU hired Doh, I hoped he would bring the program up a notch.
Cut to this point. I think most SMU fans are glad he came aboard. A lot has gotten accomplished, but we still haven't gotten over the hump. I wanted to believe Doh could do it, but now I begin to listen to the words of another coach.
I work in the film/tv industry. In 2008, I was on a movie called "Imagine That" shooting in Los Angeles and Denver. Well, we shot some scenes that included Nuggets' players Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony, and Coach George Karl. Of course, being the very SMU fan/alum that I am, I managed to have a short talk with Karl. He was very kind, and actually spoke well of SMU. Of course, he makes no bones though of his love of unc. (Why do you think they use that sky blue color now.) Anyway, the bummer was his assessment of Doh. I put aside some of what he said thinking he was still influenced by his love of unc, more than speaking practically. But with the passing of a few years, I think Coach Karl was right.
I thank Doh for moving the program upward with the donations, and some good kids, but I don't see it getting better.
Go Ponies!
