In an effort to give credit where credit is due, Doh outsmarted Orsini by getting his contract extended by two years based solely on fundraising and financial goals. Doh worked the system, built strong connections and support with the money men, and made the AD position powerless. Maybe next time Steve O. will work wins and losses into the performance equation. Oooops.

I'm not sure you're grasping how these contracts work. I'm the first to crush Orsini, but one of the rollovers was b/c Moody wasn't renovated by the time Orsini said it would be, when Doh took the job. Given our current crap facility, most name coaches would have demanded facility upgrades in that same stretch.

As for wins & losses, those incentives were undoubtedly in the contract as well. Doh got paid less every single year do to bad w/l records. He was compensated down for losing, and will soon be fired for his body or work. Had he achieved conference titles or the postseason, he would have received handsome incentives.

Doh's attorney's bit Orsini, but its not like the deal was completely flawed. Most coaches get at least 4 years on the original term of contract. Doh's was 5, which is understandable, given what he inherited. Nobody will argue he's been close to good, or deserved those additional 2 years, but he was guaranteed facility upgrades & didn't receive them on time. That makes any head mans job infinitely harder, so it is what it is

I have a feeling given the state of the program and the issues surrounding it when Doherty took over, most sane coaches would have demanded a contract favorable to them in at least some regards. Just like if we had fired Doherty three years ago, a drum beaten by a number of knuckleheads, we would have had to pay probably 10x market rate to get any attractive name to even consider the position.
