Humiliation Poll - 95 or 28

I remember that [deleted] coaching Houston trying desperately to put up 100 points against a team full of freshman. Despite humiliating loses to Houston and Notre Dame, the return season wasn't really that bad. While we got brutalized, I was proud of those guys for their effort. I was proud of our coaches for what they accomplished with very little.

This year, I remember an alleged men's college basketball scoring 28 points against a team that really wasn't that good. Even Utah, which was forced to have open tryouts from intramural teams, managed to score 33 points in every single game. Heck, that team managed to beat Stanford.

I wish all questions were this easy. 95- no one will ever forget 95. Nobody really cares about 28, and everyone will forget it about 5 seconds after we actually win some hoops games. It just seems bad because this is the age of morons using twitter as a megaphone.

2008: SLU scores 20 points in a game- http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=280100045
Nobody remembers or even cares. Majerus has them lined up for a good shot at an NCAA bid.

95. Easy.

95. No question.

We won't even remember 28 next year but we will always remember 95.

28 will be forgotten by most of the world quickly, but it was probably a worse performance in reality considering it was at home. The football team had sympathy from the whole world for being in an unprecedented situation coming off the DP. And, we were playing against the Heisman trophy winner. I don't think UAB had Mutumbo and Ewing guarding the basket.

95. That was running up the score. 28 was just bad playing and quite frankly the other team only scored 47, so it wasn't to the point of running up the score. I remember coaching youth basketball, they had a running clock and no time outs in the first half. I installed a full court zone press as our normal start. The other team was so bad the couldn't get the ball inbounds it was 21-2 at the end of the first quarter. By midway through the second quarter it was 40-2. I kept motioning the kids to drop back into a zone, but at that point they smelled blood in the water. By halftime it was 62-4. For the second half, I told them to play a loose zone and let the other team have some shots, and just have fun. I think the final score was 106-20. Oh and I only had six kids on my roster, so I couldn't sub in any stiffs.

To me, getting hammered by a team/player better than you is not humiliating.

In HS, I got a chance to wrestle against the NCAA champion and future Olympic gold medalist. Needless to say, I got crushed. I didn't feel humiliated at all b/c I gave it my all and managed to survive for 30 seconds.

I was, however, humiliated when I lost to the worst wrestler in a tournament when I f'd up and got myself pinned while winning something like 12-0.

Our guys that lost to Houston did there best. The coaches didn't F'up.

The same can't be for our guys that scored 28.

28 against a terrible opponent was more humiliating. Seeing the team during timeouts ignore and lose faith in the head coach was disheartening. The silence during that game was deafening. It was the worst display of coaching and playing I have ever witnessed on the college or high school level.

SLU 2008 laughs at this comparison.
