New Coach-- TimingOrsini will release Doherty after the CUSA tourney is over in order to give other candidates an opportunity to communicate their interest in the position. However, they will wait until after the NCAA tourney is over to announce the new coach especially since potential candidates will have their teams competing in the big dance. However, if the new coach does not have their team in the NCAA tourney, they'll make the decision very soon.
Re: New Coach-- TimingI believe SMU has some stupid rule about an employment position having to be open for X number of days before it can be filled. I understand this when it comes to say a Teaching position, but it sounds like a good way to mess up recruiting and current players when it comes to coaches.
Re: New Coach-- TimingI heard this had been reduced from 30 days to 7.
Re: New Coach-- TimingCoxbizgrad, do you know this? Is it something you've heard or just speculation?
Re: New Coach-- TimingSorry HoopManx, not really at liberty to say anything more.
Re: New Coach-- Timing
that's garbage. You don't have to name a source, just say you heard it from someone reputable, or that it's your independent thought process.. I'm the last guy that would ask anyone to burn their sources
Re: New Coach-- Timing
I understand this is part of the public school's process but a private school? GO MUSTANGS!
Re: New Coach-- TimingThen don't ask Hoopmanx.
Re: New Coach-- Timing
Same issue raised with regard to hiring of latest football coach. Some posters noted SMU requirement to post position for 30 days before hiring which is a standard policy in most companies.
Re: New Coach-- Timing
lol, you started a thread on SMU's most visited free board. No one said divulge your source, just asked if you had a reputable one, or you were having visions
Re: New Coach-- TimingYes, it's a reasonable question. Heard it from a friend or I'm just guessing.
Re: New Coach-- TimingFair enough. Not speculation. It is from a source. However, they communicated it could take a longer time if it is a coach that has a dog in the hunt/i.e. team in the tourney. There are many variables beyond their control that all effect the timeline including length of negotiation, level of interest, coaches that are interested that may not have intially appreared on the radar screen, surprise firings of coaches from other teams, etc. Although I do expect Doherty to be released immediately following the CUSA tournament.
Re: New Coach-- Timing
awesome and thx
Re: New Coach-- TimingNo problem HoopManx. Not even Orsini knows how this is going to play out.
