My biggest fear is that the Mustangs will play just well enough to save Doherty's job for another year.
Nevertheless, I just can bring myself to root for Marshall.

I doubt very seriously that Doh's standing is dependent on a win over Marshall today.

Doh is definitely gone unless he wins the entire tournament. One win against a middle of the pack team (6th seeded Marshall) won't save his job. The poor performance and results over his tenure won't be (and should not be) forgotten.

Jackson St. & Pine Bluff say this game doesn't matter.

I cheer for a run to the dance, and for him to get fired. I like cake and I like to eat it as well

if he wins the CUSA tourney and beats Duke in the first round of the NCAA tourney then he deserves to coach the last year of his contract.

Don't worry about it. They've already made arrangements to spackle the nail holes on the walls in his office. Might want to drop off some boxes, though.
