Have to Fire Doherty Now...as in RIGHT NOW!!

Postby shadowman » Wed Mar 07, 2012 5:57 pm

No waiting for Orsini to get back from the selection commitee, no waiting to sit down with Doherty for his end of year evaluation.

Have to fire him now....Make a statement that we will get a top notch coach and hope that we can keep our recruits and young players.

DO NOT wait a few weeks to do it, everyone knows its coming, even Doherty....Do it now and try and save what we have....We already will have tough sledding starting over...don't make it worse by delaying the announcement.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

It will happen after the tournament. It's a very easy, black and white decision. If I performed so poorly over a span of five years, my boss would have politely shown me the door.

Do it now, so you get the media exposure during the tourney, like the Saluki's did w/Chris Lowery. Upstage the tourney and make a media splash. Do it tomorrow before the selection show on Sunday!

I don't think the firing of the SMU basketball coach would elicit a "media splash." It would be kind of the equivalent of throwing a pebble in the ocean.

look at Lowery at SIU. It ate up most of the MVC tourney telecasts until the final. Not saying it's a splash, just a matter of using whatever CUSA media glare we have, to our advantage. Several TV games tomorrow, so firing him tonight gets how many mentions on national TV? Wait until the high majors start to fire, and we get lost. Not to mention CUSA isn't even our conference anymore, so who cares if we try and upstage the garbage proceedings

do it now for sure. Like i pointed the other day, even frickin Brown didn't wait to fire its coach. They did it immediately once their season ended.

They aren't going to fire him until after the NCAA tourney bracket is set. Orsini is on the selection committee.

Doherty deserves to be fired in person. Plus, firing him during the NCAA's gets us more publicity.

I agree! I think we get more exposure than normal due to the positioning of us getting ready to make the jump to the Big East.

Not that it matters, but put me into the fire immediately camp. The only consideration is doing it in person. The sooner the better to clear the air and everyone already knows the outcome. Of course, we all know the Big O will take his time. I will just have to take the JT approach and have no expectations.

Taking his time w/a hire means we'll lose Jalen Jones and maybe the '12 class. He needs to act quickly

I remember reading an article in the DMN how Doherty admitted his lack of leadership qualities, not knowing how to motivate and lead others, etc. and he went back and took some graduate level courses to improve upon his weaknesses in these areas. Although I commend him for doing that, it certainly seems like he didn't take it to heart. Unfortunately he still "leads" by intimidation, cannot control his impetuous temper, flies off the handle at every little thing, is too rigid in his approach, takes a punitive approach rather than encouraging, has no flexibility in adapting to the situation at hand, and quite frankly is not a natrual-born leader. I trust our team has the fortitude and strength to rebound from this. Go Mustangs!

I hope Orsini understands and appreciates that. He has been deliberate in his other hires.

We cannot loose Jones. Also, we obviously cannot afford the roster churn we had in Dohs first 3 or 4 years. You cannot get good going through players like that. It was as if we started with a new team each year.

Does it matter if he fires Doh quickly, but takes his time with the hire? Or does Orsini need to wrap both up in short order to keep everyone on board?
