Tommy Amaker takes Harvard to the NCAA Tourney

Postby SMU 86 » Wed Mar 07, 2012 9:42 pm

For the first time since 1946. He would be a good candidate for SMU to interview IMO.

It is my understanding that a very rich Harvard alum is paying for Amaker's entire salary. He is not making a normal ivy league coaching salary.

Given the amount of money Harvard alums have, I don't think SMU can win a bidding war.

Harvard's a respectable team this year, but since when is taking a team to the Dance when you're in a crummy conference something to get worked up about?

well more impressive is that he had them in the top 25 for most of the season. I'd rather hire Bruiser but we could do worse than Amaker.

I wouldn't call our conference murderers row.

HF,
Bruiser is my first choice but do you think he would leave Drexel and his hometown of Philly for SMU? I know the lure of the Big East and money talks, but he has a pretty good thing going at Drexel right now, and home is home.

good point LA, I guess what i really think is that someone bigger than us is going to hire Bruiser. Like Illinois. But you might be right, absent that, he could say no thanks to SMU and stay at Drexel. I'm not even sure SMU would go after Bruiser, thats much confidence i have in SMU basketball coaching searches.

The Big East? I would. Unless you're talking about hiring a coach on a one year contract.

I think you're right, HF. IMO, Bruiser is our ideal hire but I believe a much higher profile school will pursue him. I still think most of the NE bball community is having a tough time wrapping their arms around the fact that schools like SMU, UH and UCF are joining their beloved powerhouse bball conference. It's going to take a lot to get their respect.

Amaker also took Seton Hall to the tournament and they are in the BE. He knows how the win in the BE.

Why all the love for Bruiser? This will be his first year taking Drexel to the NCAA tournament in 11 seasons. I understand that we would all take his record at Drexel over what we have had here the past 11 seasons, but don't you want to aim higher? Personally I like Amaker.
