DMN: Who will replace Doherty? Here are some possibilities..http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com ... ome-p.html
Kate notes Tony Benford as a possibility. He would be great. He has Texas and Big East ties. But I'm sure he can do better than SMU.
Re: DMN: Who will replace Doherty? Here are some possibilitiAside from benford and Mack, looks like Kate also rolling w what's hot on ponyfans-er-"coaching circles"
Give me capel or bruiser
Re: DMN: Who will replace Doherty? Here are some possibilitiHow big a bankroll do we have? Really, that's what's going to dictate our search and our hire. If we have a break the bank budget, the sky is the limit as we know that many coaches will leave for more cash, pick any name except Calhoun, Coach K, Calipiri, and Williams. I'd even with a large budget make a run at big names who might otherwise be untouchable. If we have a solid, but not great budget, then we're looking at second chancers like Sadler and Capel. If we're going cheap, then a guy like the UTA or the UTSA coach would probably fit the bill and may work out. The key is that we have to find a coach who can (1) recruit and (2) have flexibility in coaching styles to fit the personnel he is able to get. We are not going to get the Calipiri 5 types. So, we're going to instantly be outgunned in the BE. This means the coach has to know what he has and how to use them properly. I was looking at the coaching hot seat from 2011. Heath, Crean, were on it. Now, they are solidly safe. College basketball can turn on a dime with 5 of the right guys on your team.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: DMN: Who will replace Doherty? Here are some possibilitiChris Mack would be great and I'll admit that Steve McClain is intriguing
Re: DMN: Who will replace Doherty? Here are some possibilitiI would love to see us make a run after Mack, but I cant see him leaving X unless he got a gig at an established program.
Re: DMN: Who will replace Doherty? Here are some possibilitiI like Benford.
When will I start feeling stimulated??
Re: DMN: Who will replace Doherty? Here are some possibilitiAs long as it's not Johnny Jones, anyone on that list sounds ok to me--i like Flint, out of Drexel.
Re: DMN: Who will replace Doherty? Here are some possibilitiThe Big East guys think Mack is the worst choice on that list
Re: DMN: Who will replace Doherty? Here are some possibilitiI'm sure that whoever is doing the search will poll BE coaches and other name coaches. Remember Duke asked a certain Bobby Knight who he'd recommend, and he suggested a former assistant with a long unspellable Polish name. Turned out pretty well for the Blue Devils. I'd also poll high school coaches in the area where candidates coach to get a feel what they think of the candidate. For example, if we were to want to hire the Illinois Coach, you would want to interview HS coaches in Illinois and ask why their players did or did not go to Illinois.

Re: DMN: Who will replace Doherty? Here are some possibilitiI guess that's a no on Marvin Menzies. Shame, good coach.
2015 INDIANAPOLIS OR BUST
Re: Re: DMN: Who will replace Doherty? Here are some possibi
Also unm asked knight who he would hire after he turned them down, and he told them Dave Bliss
Re: DMN: Who will replace Doherty? Here are some possibilitiAnd it was pretty easy after Pye blocked Larry Johnson getting into school. God rest his soul but man that guy so much damage to SMU athletics, it's amazing.
Re: DMN: Who will replace Doherty? Here are some possibiliti
SMU would of been in the Final Four in 1988 and on the basketball map if Grandma-ma, were allowed to get into SMU.
Re: DMN: Who will replace Doherty? Here are some possibiliti
He did just as much damage to football program, if not more, as the death penalty. GO MUSTANGS!
Re: DMN: Who will replace Doherty? Here are some possibilitiWhat about Bruce webber?
