Its' worth a call to find out if he's really in love w/ Richmond or if he just didn't want to work w/ Mike Thomas again.

If Shaka did not want Illinois, we have no chance. Either he is truly committed to VCU or he will wait to get an bigger, perhaps eastern, BB powerhouse.

I love seeing loyalty at work (though this may not be it, he may just be biding his time for a better fit later).

For BB, Illinois is an elite job and is in a strong conference. The right coach and recruiter would be a consistent winner and regularly make it to the playoffs. 16,600 fans and students pack Assembly Hall and the Illini played UNC for National Championship a few years ago with access to rich recruiting grounds in Chicago. We have a long way to go to be in their league, but the BE now makes it possible. We have nowhere to go but up. For Illinois, it is a return to tradition.

Its a good job, but I've heard it's a top 15 job this past week, and that's a farce. No one in the industry regards it in that way. Just an above average power conference position
