Why was Bruce Weber Fired?

I am not suggesting he would or would not be a good fit at SMU. I have no idea.
Since I hate all things Big Ten, I didn't pay attention to Illinois basketball. Looking at Weber's record, I am surprised that one bad year got him fired. What did I miss?

Couldn't recruit because he neglected the Chicago AAU scene

he took them to 2005 championship game but lost to UNC...after that I don't think he ever took the Illini past the 2nd round.
I dont think we want a guy that has spent his ENTIRE coaching career in Indiana/Illinois. Like Doh, he was a National Coach of the year...but that was 7 years ago.

Bruce Weber reallly lost the fire in the belly......by his own admission he coached to not lose the past 3 years.........not to win. This year he was 15-7 in January having beaten Ohio State and Michigan State, but really lost the team, the fans and the support of the administration during the tailspin, they ended up 18-15. He is a stand up, quality coach, but not sure he relates to the kids, at least the Chicago Public League kids. He would not be a good fit at SMU, in my opinion. He has been mentioned here as a successor to Majerus at SLU if there is an opening there
