In my halcyon moments, I like to think that SMU would never leak the real target, that we'd throw out a bunch of names to distract, all the while we'd efficiently be finalizing negotiations with a stunner of an announcement...

You are not the only one that has said that. Interesting. For the record I don't think it will be Williams either but I would not be mad if it were.

At this point, I honestly believe it is entirely up to him (Buzz). But, Orsini has fooled us before.

The problem w/floating Buzz's name as a distraction is that their isn't a better candidate for the job. In essence, any 'stunner' signing would be a let down, at least to a degree from Buzz. Would be smarter to float a lesser name, while signing Buzz etc

Not just a good point, but a great point. I haven't had as much fun since I was a kid waiting for Santa to find out what he brought!

Unless Calipari is the real target.

Oh I agree. I'd just think that these guys would insist on anonymity like June Jones did. For the record, I'm not saying Buzz couldn't be the target and I'll be shocked and thrilled if he's hired.

IMO Buzz leaked it because he doesn't like the Marquette AD and he wants their president to fire the AD. That tension with the AD may be the only thing that gives us a shot at getting Buzz (remember how June didn't like Herman Frazier)

Not everyone agrees:
Where does the Marquette coach fit in with the esteemed coaches here in the West Region?
In short, he doesn’t.
Williams, 39, is the youngest and admittedly least successful of the four coaches with their teams here. To be fair to Williams, it’s tough company to keep. Between Michigan State’s Tom Izzo, Louisville’s Rick Pitino and Florida’s Billy Donovan, the other coaches in the region have 25 appearances in the Sweet 16, 14 Final Four appearances and four national championships.

Why does age matter?
