Mar. 25, 2012 4:28 p.m. - by Mike Singer

Marquette University has granted SMU permission to speak to coach Buzz Williams regarding its vacant head coaching position, according to Jim Ganzer of Marquette Scout. SMU is prepared to offer Williams more than his current $2.6 million contract, as first reported by CBS' Jeff Goodman.

Even if it doesn't happen it's great it has publicly reached this level just to make all of those Marquette people who think it's still 1977 shake in their boots for a few days.

The thought of that game is making me excited to watch SMU basketball again. Even if we don't get Buzz, the fact that we are seriously going after a coach of his caliber shows a dramatic shift. This whole university has made incredible improvements in the last ten years in all aspects, academic and athletic.

not to get excited yet - but sometimes these announcements are like posting the job for the required 30 days - the day after the handshake.....

Hopefully this also will include more dedicated tutors, so there is never any more bs about academic problems. Tougher schools than SMU find a way.

Somewhere is was mentioned that had been changed to 7 days and I believe that has already passed since the posting. I would need to be confirmed on this.

my understanding is the current SMU job posting period is 7 days. The BB head coach position was posted on the smu jobs board on March 14.

What did the job description say? Must have BE experience and NTX ties?

So we must assume that the CoC has recently doubled in membership size, received double the contributions by the members, or both. Correct?

From another thread from CoxBizGrad gives your answer, if accurate (I have no reason to dispute his assertion):

Re: Buzz Williams?
by CoxBizGrad » Sun Mar 25, 2012 9:20 pm

Talks with Buzz have officially begun. Orsini has built quite the increase in salary we can offer through contributions by three key donors. If the Buzz deal doesn't come to fruition, the type of money we are offering will get a lot of coaches' attention.
