Hi guys,

Well, I figured someone should open up the lines of communication, so i figured I'll give it a shot. Was checking to see what information you guys had on the whole Buzz to SMU rumor mill, seeing as how everything seems to be murky at best. BTW, congrats on joining the big east, it's always nice adding another very solid academic institution into the mix. Anyways, whatever info u guys got would be helpful, likewise, I am sure we'll share the same. Also heard rumors u guys are in serious talks with seth greenberg, not sure how valid those are. Anyways, regardless of who you hire, good luck with the search.

Welcome to our site, and thank you. The paid site (Rivals) is pretty confident and that is all I will say. As the old saying goes, "many a slip between the cup and the lip", so we will just wait and see. I think our odds have moved up to as high as 50/50, which probably leaves a pit in your stomach, I am sorry. It almost happened to us twice with our football coach, and I can tell you it not only hurts, but our relationship may never be repared depite the miracles he has performed.

I can tell by your posts and those of your web sites that your school is well represented by good people. But, something is wrong or Buzz wouldn't be talking to us. We are extremely determined to not just return to relevance in football and basketball, but prominance--which is something I doubt your people understand. Also, I don't think you realize how prominent we were in several sports in the 80's and how angry we have been at ourselves for 25 years.

We are very familiar with disfunctionality, which is why we don't gloat and won't if Buzz comes to Dallas--just count ourselves lucky!

Welcome to the board! I have nothing to report other than my experiences since coming to Texas that SMU believes it can buy what it wants, and that can be a formidable force.

I was sad to see Marquette exit the tourney, and I wish you all the best regardless, except when we play you :)

Welcome KBE,

I will give you a not so brief overview.

There are 4 schools that carry academic / alumni cache in this state - Rice, UT, A&M and SMU. All the other major universities in this state are merely wannabe's, inferior academics and mediocre to terrible locations (Lubbock and Waco in particular). Even among the Top 4 there are warts with 3 of us as it translates to athletics. Rice has small enrollment and will not lower its academic standards for its athletes (we know the effects of this firsthand as we significantly raised our academic standards for athletes in response to the Death Penalty) so they are a non-issue in revenue sports. A&M is an excellent school with terrific alumni but it has that Aggie Corp image and is located in College Station, not the most appealing city for many urban blacks. SMU has everything going for it except for small enrollment (problem for football, not so much for basketball) and an administration that for over 20 years was anti-athletics. UT has no warts, they are the ultimate academic / athletic university.

Texas has been growing crazily over the past decades. We are a football first state, but our high school basketball talent is also quite good. To date, no one school has been able to capitalize on this and become a college basketball powerhouse. In truth, it should really be either SMU or UT or ideally the both of us.

SMU has finally made a commitment to be good again in revenue sports. There is 25+ years of pent up demand here with a very affluent alumni base just waiting to be relevant again. Under-estimate us at your own peril, if we decide to, we can be quite good again, as in scary good. It all depends on our commitment and apparently it is finally there.

Oh, and one last thing. A lot of your supporters have a way over-inflated view of Marquette basketball and no appreciation at all as to what SMU can accomplish. I will leave you with these thoughts. Between 1950 - 2008, Baylor University made only 1 appearance in the NCAA tourney, yet over the past 3 years they have made 2 Elite 8 appearances. The last 2 times Marquette made Elite 8 appearances were 2003 and ..............................1977. With a Buzz-type hire, we feel very confident that in time we can compete against Baylor and you guys.

Come visit our campus, it is one of the prettiest in the nation.
