It's like all of us are foaming at the mouth for information, think we know everything, are emotionally torn over message board rumors and cannot apply a single ounce of common sense during this process...
...when Al Gore created the internet, I guess he knew this kind of topic would have people running for information.
Did Al ever collect any royalties?

Because with no games going on (involving our teams), it is fun.

The best part is the accuracy and absolute truth associated with irrefutable antidotal evidence.

Have we reached the point where we're concerned about what the wife thinks? That's an oldie but a goodie.
I always love it how the wife will carry more influence over this (yes, I'm aware how this is a partnership (I've been married for 17 years) and that family and environment are factors) when 7 million figure can provide more security -- something most wives hang their hat on.
Not being sexist but I would suggest that the only two times the wife comes up in anything related to a coach is when he's being mentioned for a job and then when the camera catches him on camera giving her a kiss and hug after they've won a championship.
Other than that, you rarely hear about her.

Coaching wives and children have it tough. I have heard that Jimmy Johnson has almost no relationship with his kids. Most of the good coaches are workaholics who place almost all of the childraising duties on the wife.
I know one thing, my mom and sister (both hot headed Mexican American women) couldn't be forced to move anywhere against their will.

I moved my wife to DC and I am still paying for it...she wants to go back home to the beach.

SMU's leadership has shown incredible promise in investing in our athletics, it's no surprise that most of us are going crazy with the possibilities of this new found hype. Had people come out and said "oh we're willing to spend $600,000/year for the next coach" we really wouldn't be caring this much or be blowing up a thread about a single candidate past 10 pages.
