People were wondering when he was going to take a gig. Here's your answer. Of course, Bill Self coached at Tulsa before he went to Illinois. I would think Self lobbied hard for Manning with his Tulsa contacts.

Report: Manning to coach Tulsa

Updated Mar 29, 2012 3:25 AM ET

Kansas great Danny Manning has reached an agreement to become the new head basketball coach at Tulsa, CBS Sports reported Wednesday, citing a source.

The 45-year-old has served as an assistant coach at Kansas since 2007 and has been a member of the staff for nine seasons.

As a player, he led Kansas to the 1988 national title, before being selected at No. 1 by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 1988 NBA Draft.

A two-time All-Star, Manning spent 15 seasons in the NBA, averaging 14 points per game.

Manning will replace Doug Wojcik, who was fired earlier this month on the back of Tulsa's 17-14 season.

I'm sorta surprised to be honest. High ceiling, which is dare to be great. Gotta like that. OTOH, they had more established guys interested in the position

Tulsa is an ideal stepping stone school for a quality coach. I think it's a good fit for Danny and the school. I bet he succeeds there

While I agree 100% about the stepping school thing. Danny has a ton of money and stayed put in Lawrence for 14 years. I dont know if he wants to move around.

Still if the guy gets TU to the dance a few times and gets a better gig I would be thrilled.

I think Tulsa got a great coach. It will be interesting to see if Jordan Clarkson stays
