Darrin Horn = Stan Heath?

Consider Heath:

Heath has a dynamic career at Kent State and gets the program to the Elite 8 in 2002. He's hired at an SEC school in Arkansas (a pretty strong BB program at the time) and is fired after 4-5 seasons because he can't sustain the success or carve the success in his image. Maybe it was a bad fit. Heath lands at a Big East school in South Florida (Tampa), in which it is a total pro sports city and doesn't have an on-campus arena. He's tasked to take this BB program to respectability and does so. He plays a grind-it-out defensive style that leads to the Bulls making it to the NCAA tournament this year (first trip since 1991 I think) where they win two games. It's a slow process but he succeeds. He probably had to build it from scratch (the transfer and academic issues notwithstanding).

So why did he succeed at Kent and USF and not Arkansas? Lots of reasons, I'm sure.

Consider Horn:
Horn has a great career at Western Kentucky and takes them to the Sweet 16 about 4-5 years ago. He goes to an SEC school in South Carolina where he falls flat on his face and is fired after 4-5 season. Maybe it was a bad fit. Does he suddenly stink and there's a hands-off approach because he's damaged goods? Could he carve out a niche in a pro sports city and get the academic support on majors and whatnot to really have a chance to build this since we've heard there is a 4-5 year plan to make this competitive with the Big East powers? I would hope that the Braine group at least did some research on the guy (his AAU connections and recruiting track record) and see if it wants to dig deeper. If he's not on the radar, fine.

Just something to talk about as the search continues.
