Major program experience, not a set the world on fire hire, but has paid some dues and might pan out. Right now, we need to find a competent coach who can build a program. If he's got what it takes, that's fine with me.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

We certainly have a higher opinion of who the program can attract. I don't know anything about McClain, however, "...known for his animated and intense coaching style on the sidelines..." Sounds like he could be like Doherty, except hopefully he can coach and motivate the team.

Bottom feeders? What do you SMU's been since the "Death Penalty?" I'm not saying that to troll, but that's what the previous SMU administrations have allowed SMU's athletic programs to become since the "Death Penalty."

I agree. Unfortunately our dismal results year after year has caused everyone to lower their standards. Not good in any business or sports entity. Thank you Matt Doherty, etc. :(

Yeah Matt ultimately didn't do us any favors by completely bombing out in his CUSA performance, sprinkled in with awful losses to schools none of us had ever even heard of. On the one hand, he, with a big assist from Lutz, pulled the school out of the enormous local ditch post Tubbs. On the other hand, Robodoh's pronounced and noticeable utter failures in an average mid-major hoops conference frightened people who don't want to blow up their own upward career arc.

the funny thing is, it should be a lot easier in hoops than fball - and we did that already. Two really really bad hires in a row turned out to screw us badly.

Chicken Little is alive and well. Good god, the sky is not falling. We will hire a good man, but suggesting that we are bungling something appears over the top. SMU offers a lot, as will the new coach. Instant success or guaranteed results would be nice, but with the right man and plan, we will be get therein a reasonable time frame, i.e. 24-36 months.
