Hiring a basketball coach takes no time. School after school has shown that.
Every AD has a list of coaches should they need one. This AD has known he was going to need a coach for a long time Every school has a salary range. Every coach has a number. There are no drawn out negotiations.
This search has been mishandled. Period.

No, it is a success or a failure when it ends and not before. But they need to pull there head out of their @$$ and get this done.

Kinda disagree. If you have a list of the top 30 candidates you think you have some kind of shot at, and 25 of them reject you, including one who just Fs with you to get a salary increase, you keep plugging away at the next guy. You don't just settle for some schmuck who's gong to continue the same mediocrity we've had to deal with for the last 19 years. I say exhaust all corners and try to find a game-changer. We have a short window for recruiting purposes, but as long as it gets done in the next week i don't care. I'd rather take a shot at aiming high. To me there is no difference in settling for a mediocre coach or a bad coach. I don't care if we're the 99th best team in the country or the 299th... we need to be in the top 64. Let's find someone who has a chance to get us there regularly. Forgive any typos as i have had a lot of vodka.

We're getting down to the "schmuck" level. This is why a sense of urgency and timing does come into play.

Any AD has a list of a dozen or so guys he will go after at a moments notice. We are clearly beyond that list. This search is screwed up.

Being real, the only folks not recognizing or stating this is a debacle, are in the business of protecting the ad and program. Damage control. Its perceived as clown shoes in industry circles

hoopmanx- I think many of us feel that this search has turned into a major disaster. In your opinion why has this happened? Why have we failed to attract even a really good second tier coach and what could have been done to avoid our current situation? Just curious and I respect your opinion.

TCU's Athletic Department makes ours look like a bunch of @ss-clowns. They lose their coach unexpectedly and in 4 days, on a short week, before Easter weekend can close a deal to get a SEC coach replacement. Not saying it's going to be the better hire but that's how it's done.

Trent Johnson may not be the end all be all, but what he did at Nevada was impressive and he did fine at Stanford. Sounds like our type of hire. Especially when you consider who we seem to be targeting at this point. If Steve McClain and Tim Jankovic are really all we got on deck, gimme Trent Jones. I've been patient and quiet through this search, but now its getting depressing.

Baseball season has started so I've lost interest in this search.
I'm also losing interest in SMU athletics - Big East or no Big East.
Actions like this really make you question what kind of unified front and commitment we really have.
But if guys like our militant faculty and Dr. Turner want to continue to undermine our athletics programs then spare us this insult and move the school to non-scholarship D3 and be done with it.

You sure post a lot and spend a lot of time here to claim you are "losing interest."

Ouch.

It's not a better hire if he's not successful.

Whatever. Less than a week in, and baseball is already boring.

Even you must know that Turner and the "militant faculty" (which, incidentally, are the same faculty who are responsible for the degree I assume you have) have nothing to do with the coach search.

Why do you automatically assume this is a good hire???? Just because they made a quick decision does not mean it was a good or right decision. Talk to me in 4 years when the program at TCU is still at the bottom of the Big XII.

It probably won't be a good conversation if we are at or near the bottom of the Big East as well.
