Should be interesting to see who gets a better coach.

We'll see if they go with Johnny Jones. We will look pretty bad if we coulda had Jones and he goes to LSU. Still think he would be good hire for us. Trent Johnson might have been a decent get also but TCU gets him. How does TCU lose a coach unexpectedly and have a coach a week later, and we knew Doh was gone 4 months ago and still can't name a guy?

Scott Cross would be a much better hire than Jones. He is a finalist for Mid-Major national coach of the year.

Jones has a better record and more NCAA appearances and more experience.

My in state choices would be Jones, Thompson, then Cross.

If Johnny Jones goes to LSU, the same people who get upset that we missed out on him will be the same people who would have complained that we had to "settle" for a coach from UNT. But all indications are that he's a pretty solid coach, and the local AAU coaches seem to support him. Orsini needs to at least talk to him to gauge interest and evaluate him.
I never thought Trent Johnson was a good coach at Nevada, and was really surprised when LSU hired him. Sure hope we have someone better lined up.
What's the story on Tim Jankovich, or whatever his name is? He keeps popping up on the rumor mill.

Trent did pretty well at Stanford could be a decent hire for TCU. Jank(who is in the mix from what I read) is not a defensive minded coach and has not been to an NCAA tournament. All that being said I would think Jones deserves an interview IMO.

I agree that Jones deserves an interview, but I don't know enough about him to have a really strong opinion one way or the other.
What people have said here about him sounds pretty good, though.

Interesting quote from an article on Trent Johnson going to TCU.
"He's a guy that has a lot of experience in the west coast and when he went to the SEC that wasn't a good fit. Now he's trying to come back closer to the West and recruit the areas that he's more familiar with."
It might workout well for them

It's unbelievable that TCwho can hire a decent coach in 4-5 days and we can't even get it done with more money to offer in 4-5 weeks. I think that shows why TCwho has very good major athletic programs and we are just 'wishful thinkers'.

Decent is a bit of a stretch

Decent is a bit of a stretch
He was 80-48 at Stanford. Just out of his element at LSU. Decent is not a stretch and if he can get those west coast ties back and get some players to TCU it might work well for them.

1800 miles from Baton Rouge to LA
1400 miles from Fort Worth to LA
If he couldn't use West Coast ties in Baton Rouge, being 400 miles closer won't be any more of a help.
And you forget what kind of a team he inherited at Stanford. Under Montgomery, the Cardinal were regularly in the top 25. They were 30-2 in Montgomery's last year. Taking that into consideration, Johnson's coaching job at Stanford isn't really that great.

Stanford under Johnson (4 years): 80-48
Stanford under Montgomery, for the 4 years immediately prior to Johnson: 105-24
