While I'm not a fan of Majerus, the guy is a good coach and probably would've been a good hire. That said, how many coaches can we publicly get turned down by before we do perminate damage (losing current players and one or all of our three commits)? I'm all for shooting high but this is becoming a PR nightmare.
Please just offer a hungry coach (preferably young) who wants the job and be done with it.

Yeah, but stuff like this gets forgotten pretty quickly, especially if we find the right guy. NC State publicly missed on quite a few candidates before they settled (and they were settling, believe me) on Mark Gottfried. All he did was take them to the 4th round of the NCAA tourney this year.
People don't even remember how bad their search was anymore. And on top of that he has a pretty great incoming class.
I know we are not the Wolfpack, but all is forgiven if we land the right guy and he does well. It's a big "if" I know, but what's the alternative??

All the reports from St. Louis that Majerus had turned the job down - including the report from KSDK - NBC that was referenced on another site, are now nowhere to be found.
KSDK's current story on the situation is:
Majerus to interview for SMU jobhttp://www.ksdk.com/ (sports section is about halfway down the page)

The guy they were talking to was Bob Ramsy, the SLU play-by-play announcer, who is more connected to the SLU program than anyone else.

eerily similar to the sentiments at Marquette, right up to the point where Buzz announced he was staying put.

What up, NC? I get what you're saying about NC St. but we throwing insane money at these candidates and being turned down. We are not in a position to hire a high profile coach at this time. There are good coaches that would take the job (Benford, Jones) and I think do a great job.

totally agree LA, we aren't high profile enough to get anyone we want. Perhaps this search has been a reality check for all involved that we aren't as great as we thought we were, even with the cash to spend. who knows at this point.
When we grabbing beers again in Birmingham?? haha

Although I had a great time and was very impressed by the hospitality of the locals, it may be my one and only trip to Birmingham. But the gf and I are up for beers the next time you and Mrs. NC come to town.
