Who do you think is a better alternative? What if we get Brown and Benford? What if you add Reggie and Lutz back in?

This is such a no brainer. There is no downside to SMU hiring Larry Freaking Brown! This program is currently at the bottom of a VERY mediocre conference, and we should be so lucky to actually hire a basketball genius. Taking a chance on the supposed up and coming assistant can be done by any school in any given year, so I for one have been very pleased that this administration has been swinging for the fences. It is laughable to read all of the posts written with gnashing teeth saying "just hire someone already, anyone!".

Given the state of our basketball program I don't see why Larry Brown would not be a good choice who could build up the program and then leave with the future coach on the bench.

I don't think anyone was saying "just hire someone already, anyone!" but people were noticing how many coaches were turning us down. And how this was being viewed by people in the industry. It did and does not look good. Had Brown not made a statement nationally that he wanted the job we would be in trouble. We are also hiring a coach after the open eval has started and the coach has already missed eval games. We will see how this works out.

Tweet from Fran Fraschilla ‏ @franfraschilla

Spent weekend with some of DFW's best HS/AAU hoops coaches. New coaches at TCU and SMU need to take page out of Johnny Jones playbook!

Uhh, downside...Larry Brown gets bored or whiny two months into his job, which has only happened about a dozen times during his career, and bails, leaving us either a) looking for another coach or b) stuck with Buzz Peterson about to get our lunch money taken in the Big East.

Most kids won't know who Larry Brown is or what he has done. However, I'm sure we'll exploit the heck out of his time at Kansas and the NBA, which we should. I think we would benefit from having him here, even if it is for a year or two. As we can tell by the recent search, our program is a bit of a joke in the basketball community and the last horrible year, finishing near the basement of the CUSA, couldn't have helped our cause.

Kids will know who he is due to his recent stints in the NBA. Kids pay attention to the NBA. It's not like LB has been out of coaching for 10 years. Now, kids will most likely not know that he was ever a college coach.

Hire Larry Brown. Just leave Buzz {gary fatterson} Peterson in North Carolina.
