Did Isiaiah Thomas even recruit well at FIU? It seems like a Clyde Drexler type hire without him being an FIU grad. In fact, Larry Bird fired Thomas when he became the GM of the Pacers.

Richard Pitino? In SMU's case, a more thoughtful approach to the hiring decision is warranted. Another legendary coach's son would be a seemingly good catch (Sutton) or even a legendary coach himself (Brown), although he's 12 years older than Rick Pitino.

Isiah is a horrible coach, a horrible GM, and a horrible human being. If my last hire was Isiah, I would want to make sure that I did all my due diligence on my next hire. The quick decision by FIU suggests that they didn't learn their lesson.

BTW - he might be a good hire. The quick decision was the problem.

The quick decision is not a problem if he wins at FIU. The quick decision might be a result of the AD being prepared before he fired Thomas. He probably had his targets then spoke with them and made a decision.

Jeff Goodman ‏tweet @GoodmanCBS

Been out of pocket all day. Love the hire of Richard Pitino to Florida International. News conference is tomorrow, source confirmed.

I am sure many of the issues you raise re Thomas contributed considerably to his "unexpected" firing. You forgot to list: low morals, huge ego, self centered, dogmatic, publicity seeking, poor judgment, uncommitted, con artist....etc. to your list.
