Are there any good examples of success stories in other programs/sports?

Matt Painter (Purdue) and Jimbo Fisher (Florida State) come to mind

Jason Garrett - not sure if he has been a success or not.

Texas got a National Championship game with Muschamp. Not a disaster even though he later left

In light of Larry Brown's age and wandering eye, our HCIW would be more of an insurance policy than normal.

Tim Jankovich is the current head basketball coach at Illinois State University. He was an assistant basketball coach at Kansas for four years, and served under current Kansas head coach Bill Self at Kansas and Illinois.

He has also served as an assistant coach at Kansas State, Colorado State, Oklahoma State, Texas and Vanderbilt. He played college basketball at Washington State and Kansas State.

He and his wife, Cindy, have a son, Michael.

Jankovich never got UNT or Illinois State to the NCAA tournament but now he is going to be head coach in waiting? That makes to sense. Kate's tweet.

Kate Hairopoulos ‏ @khairopoulos

If Tim Jankovich takes head-coach-in-waiting gig -if Larry Brown to SMU works - SMU will be hiring a former UNT coach, just not Johnny Jones

makes total sense. don't be ridiculous - its his job to lose in three years after proving some value by helping build the program.

You are the one that should not be ridiculous. Jankovich has never taken a team to the NCAA tournament. AT least we could have chosen a HCIW that has at least taken a team to the tournament. Makes no sense.

Howard is definitely going to be a rock sold recruiter for sure.

So is it a deal killer if Jankovich doesn't come to SMU?

Its says Jankovich's salary would double to $800,000 and Howard would receive a significant raise from $150,000. Add 1.75 Million for Brown and some for Strickland and we are probably at about 3.1 Million a year. I think its significant that Howard is turning down a big 12 team too so his salary will likely double-probably more

You might say SMU and a new " Basketball Circle of Champions" has stepped up ... big time!

Embrace the East!
