LB to SMU, Assistants are the Real Story?

Postby Water Pony » Wed Apr 18, 2012 9:44 am

SB Nation: "While Larry Brown was an excellent hire for SMU, the ultimate success of the move will depend on the coaching staff he assembled, one of the best money could buy."

I also think that the CIW concept is a hard sell, where HCIW has to coach today, check his ego and excite recruits and fans for the long term. Howard and Strickland need to buy into "the man and the plan" with Larry Brown creating the blue blood culture and rebranding SMU for the next 2-3 years.

Wouldn't it be better if Strickland or Howard were brought in as HCIW, and leave Jankovich out of the mix?

Larry has mentioned Buzz and Jank. Both coaches he is close too. I assume Larry wants someone who he knows closely already and knows exactly how much he can defer to him on the current HC responsibilities.

Isn't the HCIW still going to be the game coach? I thought all LB wanted to do was run practices and teach.
