Not very much data yet - so it is an anomoly. Of the undfeated teams, we have played the toughest schedule. We will drop off the page as soon as some stronger teams play some other stronger team - regardless of if we win or lose going forward.

It's RPI, it's a set formula.

I thought each site tweaked it a little differently.

No, it is a set formula.
25% your record
50% opponents' record
25% opponents' opponent's record

It's because we are beating teams that are ranked (RPI rank) much higher than us. It's harder for teams like UCONN to beat higher (RPI) ranked teams since they are usually at the top. It will change from game to game/hour to hour based on the projected wins/losses of teams that are/were in the top 50 or 100. Enjoy the few days in the top but I think the next few days if we beat lower ranked (RPI) opponents we will fall lower - no surprise even if we start 5-0.

I personally am enjoying this and love it. But this tool is used mostly for seeding the tournament at the end and doesn't have much to do with the actual rankings.

*RPI rankings determine the strength of schedule element of the formula....at one time it showed we beat two teams in the top 50 (RPI) which increased our SOS. since SOS is 75% of the formula we did really well. That is why when a we play lower ranked (RPI) teams our SOS will dropand we will drop.

What part of the math I laid out above do you not get? It has nothing to do with a team's ranking or anything that is projected. It is simply 25% x smu's record + 50% x smu's opponents' record + 25% x smu's opponent's record. Since all of smu's opponents have won all their games except SMU, and SMU itself is undefeated, SMU ends up with a high rpi.

It is obviously a very suspect list early in the season, need a lot larger sample size before it gets reasonable.

The RPI does not take into account "ranking." It only takes into account who you beat and who they have beat.

As a result, the formula is invalid during the early part of the season. Until there are enough data points, it is just fun to look at (when you are on top).
