That game makes me appreciate our win tonight. Goes to show you can't assume anything.

Lot of upsets tonight. Texas to Chaminade, UCLA to Georgetown, UConn to New Mexico. Heck A&M lost by 21 to St. Louis.

New Mexico was a 4 point favoriteover Uconn, not much of an upset. UCLA/G Town was pretty much a coin flip game as well.

I am sure all the old timers are aware of this, but some of the younger folks might not be. In 1984 Chaminade beat SMU on Christmas in the finals of the Chaminade Classic.

Oh by the way, SMU entered the game 9-0 and ranked #4 in the country.

What a crazy time to attend SMU.

Football was one of the true national powerhouse programs and basketball was top ten in the nation.

I'd have given anything to be a student back then.

No kidding. I was not a student then, but as a 10 year old living in Dallas in 1984 with family who had attended SMU I was totally dialled in.

I started at SMU in 86 expecting to see us play for a National Championship before I graduated. My first year, we were still going pretty good (despite being on probation) and had a full house at Texas Stadium for the A&M game. After losing that game, David Stanley went on Channel 8, the investigations started, the team quit on Collins, I ended up building homecoming floats for two soccer games, and our only wins my senior year were against Uconn and UNT.

Worst of all, my sister went to Notre Dame where they won a title before she graduated.

After graduation, I went to UT during the McWilliams/Macovic era/debacle.

Texas is not very good this year at all. They almost lost to Fresno St in their first game.

Keep in mind this game is in the Maui invitational, despite the loss they are still in Hawaii. I am jealous.
