We can't do that here. It would cause a complete meltdown on this board from fans screaming that black isn't one of our colors.

That and 2/3 of the stands would be empty.

2/3 of the stands are already empty.

If Larry called for it next year, I think we'd all be down for it.

June on the other hand, .

It wouldn't work here regardless. We simply don't have the fanbase to pull it off...even if we did, I don't think our fans would participate bc a lot of people are way too into tradition

I thought it was pretty cool that the entire football team was in their student section. At the game on Wednesday I was surprised none of the football players came into the student section. Anybody know if they stuck around for the second half or just left?

That's why red outs work best here. The stands are red, so I looks like everything is red on tv.

In order to pull off a "Black" Out, you have to (1) have critical mass so all the seats are full, and (2) either use one of you school colors so that people already have an appropriately colored, school related shirt to wear to the game OR you have to hand out free t-shirts of the chosen color to EVERYONE. This latter option still assumes the fans will all put the shirt on -- over their shirt and tie, their sparkly tank top or whatever. As we know, Dallas (not just SMU) culture is a bit on the vain side and may resist. The last time I was at a Mavs game and they handed out free shirts for a Blue Out (against OKC in the playoffs), the Mavs were very clever. They singled out people in the crowd not wearing the shirt showed them on the video board flashing "PUT THE SHIRT ON" until the boos of fans finally exerted enough pressure to do it.

The problem with the black for SMU is not the black per se, but the fact that we don't anything that makes a black, blue, red, pink, or anything out effective, making us just look silly.

P.S. Most of the football team stayed and sat up behind or to the left of the band.

3.) Announce it's intended to honor the opponent you're playing.

A black out vs Kentucky in hoops is funny.

I believe ND is handout free T shirts at the game as well as announcing it prior to the game.

Why?

UTEP, with 5 black starters, beat Kentucky, with 5 white starters, in the 1966 national championship game. UTEP was the first team ever to start 5 black players in a championship game.
