Hives-McCray Posts Double-Double As Mustangs Rout UT-Pan Am
All 11 players scored for SMU, led by Askew's 14 points

Dec. 1, 2012

DALLAS (SMU) - Destynee Hives-McCray posted her second double-double of the season with 12 points and a career-high 11 rebounds, and Kristin Askew scored a career-high 14 points to lead all players as SMU doubled up UT- Pan American 71-35 in Moody Coliseum Saturday, holding an opponent to less than 40 points for the sixth time in the program's 36 seasons.

Askew went 5-for-7 from the field, including 4-of-5 on 3-point attempts to reach double figures in back-to-back games after scoring what was then a career-high 11 points at TCU. All 11 available players found the scoring column for the Mustangs, and three of four freshmen had at least six points.

The Mustangs (6-2) held the Broncs (3-6) to just six points from the field in the first half, holding UT-Pan Am scoreless from the field from the 18:20 mark until there were less than two minutes on the clock. During the stretch, SMU posted its largest run of the season, scoring 24 unanswered points to take a 28-4 lead before the Broncs got a free throw to end the drought with 7:23 left in the half.

On the offensive end of the floor, SMU shot 38.5 percent in the first 20 minutes to take a 39-13 lead at halftime, led by Askew who went 3-for-4 from 3-point range for nine points. Hives-McCray nearly had a double-double in the half, scoring seven points with seven rebounds.

SMU finished the game shooting 40 percent from the field, making 28-of-70 shots, including six 3-pointers. Korina Baker had five of SMU's 17 assists, and Ailisha Filmore had four assists with three steals. Gabrielle Wilkins, who came into the game sixth in Conference USA with 3.2 steals per game, had four steals and seven points.

The Mustangs are back in action on Dec. 17 against Louisiana-Monroe in Moody Coliseum at 7 p.m., starting a stretch of three home games in six days.

Way to go, Mustangs!

Love having two teams off to such a good start.
I really shouldn't drink and type.
