Means nothing. Let's do it during conference play!

Wins keep adding up and this SMU team needs all the wins it can get. Every win means a lot.

means a ton when they start picking teams for post conference if we can sneak a few during the conference. don't forget - if we get 22 wins and happen to be in the final game for CUSA - (not likely but could happen) then we would get some votes for the tourney just because of LB.

I am hesitant to go into this, because I know that we are not a NCAA tourny team, but just hypothetically in order to get in the tourny I believe we need:

Non Conference- 13-3, 14-2

Road win at Utah
Road win at TCU
Cable Car Classic 1 or 2 wins
Beat Wyoming (Wyoming just beat Colorado, this would be a great resume win)

Conference- 11-5, 12-4

Need to beat Southern Miss
ECU game is important
UCF game
Memphis game is another important resume win.

On top of all of that we need to at least go to the championship game of the CUSA

So honestly, it would be extremely hard to build up a Tournament resume with our weak schedule. Love to watch these guys play, and would be ecstatic if we made the NIT.

Exactly why I said it means nothing! Every team schedules differently for the non-conference schedule so it is not apples to apples. Don't get me wrong, I love winning and hope we win them all, but realistically we are going to have to win the CUSA regular season title to clinch a spot in the NIT and win the CUSA tournament to clinch a spot in then NCAA tournament.

Actually if we won CUSA or the tourney we would get a bid (odds >90% IMO).

But to my bigger point. NCAA tourney is 68 teams, NIT is 32. That's 100 teams and part of the NIT selection process is based on teams' appeal.

LB and the fact that we have not been to the NIT in ages makes for a good story and at least 4,500 in Moody. My bet is 20 wins gets us there. It's all about LB. And as I said earlier, game would be at Moody for a change and maybe even against a cream-puff as NIT would prefer 2 LB games instead of just one.

In conclusion, NIT will do everything humanely possible to get LB back to MSG.

I said that if we won either we would get a bid as those would be automatic bids. Getting into the NIT as an at large is extremely difficult thanks to the automatic bids given to regular season conference champions. As long as we keep winning, good things will happen.

That is why non conference games mean a lot too. We willl not need to win the regular season tournament to get into the NIT imo as most regular season champions either go to the NCAA tournament even if they do not win their conference tournament (not all but most). The CBI tournament is also out there as well. 19 or 20 wins will get us somewhere imo. Getting a good amount of non conference wins will help.

I love the buzz but IMHO 8-8 in conference play would be a major success, and that we will be extremely lucky to win 20 games. I expect 19 (talking regular season, I would like to add a W in the CUSA Conference).

It's just fun to see where this is going.

At this stage, I'd rather have 8 wins than have less than 8 wins.

I expect at least 12 non-conference wins.
