Pre-Game Restaurant AdviceNext week, I am flying back to Dallas so my daughter can get spoiled by my parents. While I am there, I plan to take my nephew and father to the Furman game.
Any suggestions on a new(er) restaurant that we might check out before or after the game? Since my dad and I don't drink and my nephew is 15, we aren't looking for a bar scene. Thanks and Merry Christmas. Hope to see plenty of you at the game. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Pre-Game Restaurant AdviceCisco Grill in Snider Plaza. Close to Moody without traveling across Central. Terrific food and good atmosphere for conversation. Excellent service. Good burgers, Southwestern fare, chicken fried steak, awesome grilled chicken tacos. Speak with Eric, the owner. Big time SMU fan.
Oops. Just saw the "Furman". Not open Sundays. Try Peggy Sue Bar-B-Que in Snider.
Re: Pre-Game Restaurant Advice
Or Banditos, overpriced but that comes with the neighborhood. Decent Tex-Mex. I can't stand Cisco.
Re: Pre-Game Restaurant AdviceThe Italian Restaurant in Snider is excellent. On the west side near Lover's Lane. Reasonable pricing, half portions are plenty big. Forgot the name, Marios??? And there's Kuby's for Weiner Schnitzel/Pork Chops.
Re: Pre-Game Restaurant Advice
Amore Derail the Frogs!
Re: Pre-Game Restaurant AdviceGrab a taco at Torchy's and try a gourmet beer or two at World of Beer across 75 and walk across the overpass to Moody.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Pre-Game Restaurant AdviceLove World of Beer, but he doesn't drink.
I second Banditos. Love that place. And pick up one of their cool Southwest Conference t-shirts.
Re: Pre-Game Restaurant AdviceThe Velvet Taco is great (Knox/Henderson) and a fun atmosphere. Half Shells in Snider Plaza is good. Peggy Sue's is good if you like sloppy joes -thats some WEAK BBQ.
Re: Pre-Game Restaurant AdviceBanditos or torchys with pokey-os for dessert
Re: Pre-Game Restaurant Advice
I've always felt bad about saying this, and admittedly I've only been there twice, but Peggy Sue's was by far the worst bbq I've ever experienced. Worse than truck stop bbq, worse than a 7-11 bbq sandwich. But at least they have horrible decor. No idea how they stay in business.
Re: Pre-Game Restaurant Advice
I feel the same way. I can't believe that they are still in business. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Pre-Game Restaurant AdviceI would say Bandito's - fairly small and crowded but a good family atmosphere. Peggy Sue's sauce is spicy and good, but the food is mediocre.
For more upscale, the new Lumen Hotel has a nice menu. Bubba's is still around and solid. Campisi's is always an option.
Re: Pre-Game Restaurant Advice
I agree. Sonny Bryan's is better
Re: Pre-Game Restaurant AdviceChuy's is freaking awesome. Go before 7pm for happy hour (free queso)
Re: Pre-Game Restaurant Advice
That's funny. I feel bad about it too and have tried to like it...and it smells good but the food's absolutely horrible. There, I said it and won't criticize them anymore
