Duncanville senior averaged 15.4 points to lead Pantherettes to title

DUNCANVILLE, Texas (SMU) - SMU women's basketball signee Kiara Perry was named Most Valuable Player of the Sandra Meadows Classic Varsity Girls Tournament in Duncanville after averaging 15.4 points during the five games, including a game-high 18 points in the championship game against Plano West.

The senior guard led Duncanville to its second straight championship in the tournament, which consisted of 32 teams from three different states and Australia. The Pantherettes knocked off Wylie, Denton Ryan, Kennedale, Overton (Tenn.) and Plano West on their way to the title, winning every game by more than 25 points.

Perry was named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches 5A All-State team after averaging 11.1 points per game with 6.8 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 2.4 assists. She pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds in the state championship game win over Dekaney last season. She is a two-time all-district and academic all-district, and was named Co-Best Offensive Player at Duncanville.

Next season, Perry will join a Mustangs team which is 9-4 this season, coming off an 88-73 win over Harvard. SMU begins Conference USA action at Tulane on Jan. 10, capping off a three-game road trip before returning to Moody Coliseum to take on UCF on Jan. 13.
