Did many of you notice that the overhead scoreboard never kept up with fouls, who was in the game,etc...our group has seen this several times this year, but today it was not accurate as to indvidual fouls by the tulane players and often did not keep up with substitutions for long periods...is this a human controlled activity and does this supply the record keeping that declares time played by the SMU players...

There was some sort of technical difficulty. Rich and Alan mentioned it post game, but missed the explanation.

I sit on front row of section e and I was watching them right below me struggling to reboot the computer and then catch up on the stats.

When Jalen fouled out, he was shocked and pointed up at the board, which had him at only 3 fouls...

I find it more shocking that he thought he was playing with 2 fouls rather than 4.

I thought he was gesturing for a replay that the guy was inside the no charge arc.

As opposed to some sort of artificial intelligence program that senses who is on the court?

We're screwed if our scoreboard somehow becomes self-aware...

Someone showed a picture of the stats computer used at the SMU game. Looked like an Apple IIe vintage model. Somebody needs to buy a new Dell.

Sometimes it is not always clear to the players who really got called for the foul. They may rely on the scoreboard to see if they actually got credited with the foul. Since it is the official scoreboard, they should be able to rely on it.

Funny story. There was a guy on the Bulls BITD that changed his jersey number. Why? His number was similar to Jordan's and he claimed that he kept getting credited with Jordan's fouls!!

If true, thats is ridiculous. New PC costs nothing.

That was me and it looked nothing like an apple, it is clearly a pc laptop. It is still posted if you want to look. Also, I was just taking a picture from the stands so I can't speak to what the problem was or say with 100% certainty that the computer I was looking at was the one that feeds the scoreboard and Internet. That said, in the picture you can see a device next to it labeled daktronic which is the brand of the scoreboard.

Wouldn't it make sense to turn off the players stats on the scoreboard if they were having technical difficulties and the information was grossly inaccurate?

I would think that someone sitting on the bench should always have knowledge of how many fouls a player has and if a player has 4 fouls the player should know. And if a scoreboard operator is being used to take care of that for us then this is a wake up call to do it differently. I can see where a player might have 3 fouls and he thinks two but when a player has 4 fouls, especially an impact player, he needs to know in order to play properly.
