He is on the ESPN's Basketball Live with some hot sports opinions. He is slamming the committee for putting teams in based on computers. He said it is ridiculous that people are taking about Middle Tenneessee St as a tourney team. To quote Doherty "I've seen them play and they are not very good, I don't care what a computer says. You've got people on the selection committee who haven't seen most of these teams play a game. They need to get basketball people on the committee instead." He was passionate.

"I've seen them play, and believe me, I know what a not-very-good team looks like."

Cant say he knows much either, good guy but glad he is not with us.

Every yr a ESPN analyst ...ahem..Jay Bilas or Rafferty goes on a rampage and them that team ends up doing very well. It is hilarious. Happens every time..

Doh is a good person and a decent assistant coach. He can't run a program, but that doesn't make him a "con man." Go grind your axe against Doh somewhere else.

No, Bennett was a much better recruiter.

I would say that the opposite is true, that Doherty left us with some real talent on the roster. And he led the program very well, his huge glaring weakness was that he couldn't coach effectively.

Some of Doherty's recruits were run off in favor of not having a bench at all by Larry Brown. More will apparently be gone this offseason. His one real quality recruit was McCoy. In 6 seasons Doherty only had 1 player make all-conference first or second team.

Bennett got Sanders, Robinson, Morstead, Keylon Kincade (I know he's fun to slam, but he did run for 1200 yds twice and spent 3 years with the Cowboys), Justin Rogers, etc.

If that is the measure, then there is still time for many players on the roster to get all conference honors and even the mark.

There is so much wrong w/your firs paragraph, not sure where to start. First off, Larry Brown made a mistake. He pleaded w/Leslee after he cut him, to get him back. Leslee will most likely be in the Big 10 next year, as of now. He's not as talented as, but is a better player than Cannen, just saying.

McCoy wasnt Doherty's one quality recruit. HE was a 3 star Spring signee that had inflated offers b/c it was Spring. All of Cannen, Blaise, Dia, Shawn, Russell were as highly rated. Mauel and Jalen had as many stars etc. 6 win teams don't get first team all conference players.

In the 2nd paragraph, you equate 5 kids in the pro's from a 100 person team w/hoops, who has 13 graduates every 4 years. Not apples to apples I'd bet a higher percentage of SMU hoopsters will play pro's overseas and earn a paycheck than will collect a check in the NFL. Not as glamorous, but seeig the world, playing a game, for a check, doesnt suck

And teams with quality players don't end up with 6 wins. The jury is still out on the current players, but there are few highlights in Doherty's 6 years of recruiting.
