CBS, "old" Big East/TBN reach deal for basketball

"Whatever the Big East's new name will be, it will play its games on familiar television networks."

"Weeks after ESPN matched an NBC offer to keep the conference's football and basketball rights, the old Big East (which is currently considering new names) reached a long-term agreement with CBS Sports, who will have first choice for conference basketball games between now and the 2019-20 season. Men's basketball will appear on CBS up to 12 times per season. CBS usually broadcasts college basketball on Saturday and Sunday afternoons."

I don't see projected revenue, but it appears to be additive to the ESPN deal.

Is the old big east the new big east or the actual new big east- or do you mean the former big east which actually encompasses programs in multiple conferences?

I don't know very much about basketball or media deals. But 12 games doesn't seem like very much. With a 10 team (I guess 12 soon) conference that sounds to me like SMU would only be on TV maybe once or twice a season? How does that stack up to other conferences?

The extra two million will come in handy. Plus it doesn't take much to top what we had with CUSA both in dollars and visibility.

Although not as wished or hoped, at this time this is progress for SMU - within this conference with FB (bowl games) and soon BB (LB hire) on the rise. It would be hard to make the case that we earned or deserved more. Patience is hard, but from this point forward, we need to earn our promotions and increase our brand.

FYI, it's now being reported that it is $3m/year
