Would Allen Iverson make a good recruiter? (The Ticket)

Postby Comet » Tue Apr 23, 2013 8:36 am

As I was driving home yesterday, the Hardliners were talking about recent reports of Allen Iverson being completely broke. Apparently Larry Brown and others in our staff were interviewed and shown to be concerned about him. Then Corby asked, why not just add him to the SMU staff, maybe he could coach? I'm pretty sure that his coaching wouldn't be all that great, especially in light of having Larry here. However, he might be able to be a pretty strong recruiter given his background. This made for interesting food for thought after a long day yesterday (also more local publicity).

Pay him $50k/year to hang out and play pickup basketball with the basketball & football teans (and recruits when they visit). No other official job duties than that. No smoking on campus. No guns on campus.

Since LB is all about doing things "the right way" and AI is not, it would almost undermine brown to have him around.

Maybe not a coaching job, but would still like to see him make multiple appearances here in Dallas.

Good pub for SMU and possibly good for AI as well.

June would help him out by putting him on staff.

Actually, AI might not be bad on the football staff. He could most likely recruit better than some of our coaches.

With his apparent alcohol abuse I don't think he would be helpful in any capacity on the hilltop. Hope he gets the help he needs.

Some actually thought he was a better football player than bball player coming out of high school...too bad with all that talent he can't contribute much or anything to society.

Allen attended Bethel High School, where he started as quarterback for the school football team, while also playing running back, kick returner and defensive back and started as point guard for the school basketball team. During his junior year, Allen was able to lead both teams to Virginia state championships, as well as earning The Associated Press High School Player of the Year award in both sports.
