Never thought I'd live to see the day when we would lose an assistant coach to Kansas in basketball. I agree Larry will replace him with another outstanding recruiter.

That move will make a lot of up and coming young coaches want to come here. Sad to see him go but it shows the strength of the program

Do you think we go out and get someone for next season or just promote from within?

I would think that we have to go out at get someone to replace his recruiting abilities. That will be sorely missed.

Maybe it paves the way for Iverson to come on in a recruiting capacity? Howard will certainly be missed but wish him all the best at KU. I have confidence in LB to fill the void and keep moving us forward.

Not necessarily so. If there were someone better than Howard that wanted to come to SMU before we hired Howard we would have hired them over Howard. However, I do think we will get some good. Chicago pipeline will be affected for sure. Good move by Self as he should lock down whatever player he wants out of Chicago now.

I don't think that's true, 86. Brown has improved his stock -- and SMU's stock -- quite a bit since he took over. There was lots of talk out there that he was over the hill and wouldn't give us the necessary attention before bolting after year one. Fair to say he's blown those expectations out of the water to this point.

I am not saying that. I am saying that to just say he will replace him with someone better is just not a given. We were headed to what was known as the Big East when we hired Howard which helped in getting him as well as Coach Brown here. Now were are headed to a conference minus the 7 Catholic schools that will be losing Louisville after next year. Howard is top 5 or 10 recruiter. Most if not all top 10 recruiters are in the power 5 conferences which we are no longer headed toward. We have the money but may not have as much conference clout now. I hope we do hire a top recruiter from Michigan St, Indiana, Louisville, Marquette or Arizona. I wish Coach Brown the best.

Howard played for Self and the two are close friends. Nothing Coach Brown could do even if he did not approve of it. Assistant coaches switch schools all the time.
