Why would Dickey let him go now? He is part of the Cougar tradition, has his number retired, has been working at UH for years, etc.

Sounds like he demoted him not let him go. But Young did not like the demotion so he resigned.

By demoting him, he pretty much let him go.

Must've been something going on there. However, two assistants are coming in that are quite solid and bring bright prospects for the future. Also, the Baylor PG transferred that will hopefully be eligible this year (family illness). UH will definitely miss Joseph Young but there are a good amount of pieces to stay competitive with SMU this year. We'll see how both teams develop this year because our futures are brighter in the coming years than they are in '13-'14.
